The upcoming summer season in the mountain town of Durango, Colorado peaks on a high note as the Durango Blues Train announces its return to the rails for a moving, musical adventure on August 26 and 27. The August lineup features Kent Burnside, The Sugar Thieves, Héctor Anchondo, Jacob T. Skeen, Kirk James and One Roof Blues.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring the Blues Train back to Durango after two years of forced hiatus” said Steve Gumble, founder of the Durango Blues Train. “These bands present a perfect variety of styles to offer passengers a truly spirited and unique musical journey. Together, they form the perfect recipe for a great time.”
On one end of the train is Kent Burnside, guitarist, singer, songwriter and eldest grandson of the legendary North Mississippi musician R.L. Burnside. Burnside’s powerful, raw, deeply soulful performances are at once hypnotic, dark, hopeful, engaging and danceable.
On the opposite end of the train will be the The Sugar Thieves, a Phoenix, Arizona-based outfit known for high energy, soulful live shows. Moving between blues, country, folk, gospel, rock and roll, and elements of jazz, freely they honor the tradition that makes American music so great.
Héctor Anchondo returns to the lineup making his second appearance aboard the Blues Train. His guitar playing has become a thing of legend earning him the top prize at the 2020 International Blues Challenge in the solo/duo category.
Adding to the cadre of talent, Utah’s premiere one-man-band Jacob T. Skeen makes his debut appearance on board the Blues Train serving up smoldering psychobilly, pounding drums and searing guitar chops.
Giving riders a glimpse of Texas Blues, veteran Blues Train artist Kirk James returns playing Texas Shuffles, ragtime and funky grooves.
Rounding out the lineup is One Roof Blues, a talented trio with a homegrown sound of soul and blues-inspired original songs.
