Telluride Arts’ Holiday Art Walk takes place Thursday, December 16. Participating venues are open from 5-8pm, hosting receptions to introduce new exhibits and artists. 

Complimentary gallery guides, offering a self-guided tour, are available at participating venues or online attelluridearts.org/tellurideartwalk. Use it any time to help navigate through the venues which are open to the public most days.

Ah Haa School for the Arts

Ah Haa is presenting the “Cup and Bowl Show,” an exhibition in the Daniel Tucker Gallery.

Ubiquitous kitchenware, vessels of metaphor, tools of social communion: cups and bowls hold meaning (as well as meals) in many aspects of our daily lives. Showcasing creative containers shaped by artists of all ages, the “Cup and Bowl Show” and its surrounding classes invite everyone to raise a cup, fill a bowl, and celebrate simple objects.

The exhibition aimed to involve anyone and everyone from the Telluride community through free, hands-on related programming for all ages. “Cup and Bowl” includes objects by 12 local ceramics artists and works by others who chose to showcase (and sell) their art.

In conjunction with the “Cup and Bowl Show,” Ah Haa is partnering with Telluride’s Wilkinson Public Library to offer free classes for youth, teens and adults. Check out www.ahhaa.org to register.

Atelier

Atelier is featuring the artworks of Joanie Schwarz.

Schwarz sees beauty in imperfection. This Main Street space is a working studio, displaying a collection of artworks ranging from paintings and photography to fine jewelry and hand-embroidered cashmeres.

Aveda Telluride Spa

AVEDA Telluride Spa is featuring artwork by Brazilian artist Jair Gabriel.

Gabriel was born in the middle of the Amazon rainforest and grew up as a rubber tapper’s son harvesting latex. He creates paintings using acrylic paint on canvas. The result is a unique combination of pointillist and stylized techniques that inspire a new perspective on natural scenes.

Baked in Telluride

Baked in Telluride is featuring the work of landscape photographer Gary Ratcliff.

The show is entitled “The Four Seasons of Wilson Peak,” after the iconic mountain in Telluride’s backyard. The majesty of the peak is celebrated in color and black-and-white prints: blanketed with winter snow; adorned by spring wildflowers; and emblazoned by fall colors.

Gary operates the Ouray Image Photography gallery in nearby Ridgway where he lives. He prints and frames the work in his studio where he uses a large-format printer to make images that can be as big as 12-feet wide.

“The Four Seasons of Wilson Peak” ends January 31. Prints in the show consist of canvas wraps as large as six-feet wide, many finished in wood floater frames.

Bella Fine Goods

In addition to featuring beautiful jewelry collections curated from around the world, Bella Fine Goods in Telluride is presenting the works of Aida Izadpanah and Stan Natchez.

Stan Natchez is known for his innovative and creative paintings. Inspired by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and other iconic artists, his work exudes the power of color and familiar objects. His canvases often begin with artifacts of American culture, including figures such as Native Americans, mission priests or cowboys. Intricate stars-and-stripes beadwork add texture to bold works that emanate beauty and joy.

Aida Izadpanah lives and works in New York City, specializing in large-format, mixed-media and porcelain sculptural painting.

Crossbow Leather

Crossbow Leather is featuring custom leather products by Macy Pryor.

Pryor applies her passion for sculpture and eye for structural design to crafting custom leather bags and accessories.

Crossbow Leather offers a truly unique experience of retail in the front and a workshop in the back. With the production happening in the shop, experience the craft first-hand, see products come to life, and meet the people who hand-craft each piece.

Elinoff & Co.

Elinoff & Co. is featuring the artworks of Eugenio.

Simply known as Eugenio, he is one of the most promising Peruvian artists working today.

Sprawling cities might seem boisterous to some, but for Eugenio a bustling urban setting is a source of inspiration. Through a command of light and movement, Eugenio takes the ordinary trappings of such settings—cityscapes depicting crowds of people shuffling through a brightly-lit street—and transforms them into something special and grand.

ETHOS

ETHOS is featuring the artworks of Heidi Krauss.

Krauss has a deep passion for design and the ways we communicate with our world through what we put on our bodies. She has distilled a lifetime of obsession into statement pieces that serve as functional art – with a story and a mission.

“Bag on a Mission” is a truly authentic brand, embodying conscious commerce. Each is a handmade piece by an artisan dedicated to their craft is made in America with as small of a footprint as possible. The mission and vision highlight how slow, deliberate fashion can help us rethink agriculture, heal the soil, and save our pollinators.

In the end, Krauss’ works are conduits for the change we need.

Kamruz Gallery

The Kamruz Gallery is featuring photography by Mary Kenez and local painters that capture the spirit of Telluride and Southwest Colorado.

For more than 10 years, Kamruz Gallery has offered Telluride locals and visitors unique and humorous creations that cleverly depict the ever-so-active, hippy-happy and often a bit quirky Telluride lifestyle.

LIV Sotheby’s International Realty

LIV Sotheby’s Telluride location is featuring Laurel Anderson’s Line + Color series.

Offering a sense of restorative meditation, this series explores what Anderson describes as “simplicity, perfected.” These modern landscapes from across the United States explore the balance between shape and color and how that can create a sense of simplicity and stillness on a grand scale.

Anderson is a fine art photographer in San Francisco, who grew up in the San Juan mountains.

MiXX projects + atelier

MiXX projects + atelier is featuring “Retrofit,” an exhibition in which retro ski suits and comic book beauties meet technicolor cowboys and pensive bison in a celebration of kitsch and Western Americana – where color reigns supreme and everything old is new again.

Two of MiXX atelier’s favorite artists (and Texans), Kevin Chupik and Mitch McGee, come together once again in a colorful and dynamic show that balances light-hearted wit and playful narrative with impeccable craftsmanship.

Chupik’s Western landscapes frequently feature unexpected details like rainbow-bright horizon lines and cotton-candy clouds reminiscent of 10-gallon hats. The works are equal parts humorous and haunting.

McGee’s layered birch oil paintings are just as clever, playing on layers of inspiration – from Lichtenstein’s iconic Pop paintings, to the uncanny nature of gendered marketing in retro advertisements – all grounded in an amalgam of woodworking and painting.

Mountain Gate Teahouse & Art Gallery

Mountain Gate Teahouse and Art Gallery is featuring the vivid and evocative paintings of local artist Jade Rose in an exhibition titled “Inherent in the Leaf.”

Working with a fierce intensity while maintaining a deeply gentle spirit, Rose earned a Master of Fine Arts and carries her mastery like a torch.

Rose has been a passionate animal rights activist and abstract painter for 15 years. Her life’s mission is to end animal cruelty by uplifting all fauna to the level of saints in the eyes of contemporary art viewers.

Mountain Gate is Telluride’s home for the craft, art, and meditation of tea. “Inherent in the Leaf” is a reminder of the intertwining relationship between meditation, tea, and enlightenment. Like great art, exceptional tea transcends words and is best experienced directly, here and now. Therefore, every true teahouse is an art gallery and every art gallery a welcome place to appreciate the artistry of tea.

Guest artists are carefully curated to reflect the space of mindful awareness shared in tea ceremony.

Red Dirt Studio Gallery

Red Dirt Studio Gallery is featuring paintings by Eunika Rogers, a local artist who works with found clay, wine and pigments, also handcrafted jewelry by Tony Finocchio.

Eunika collects her clay medium on hikes in the San Juan Mountains and around Telluride. With her earthy palette she creates large realistic paintings of Colorado landscapes – scenes painted in the matter with which they was formed.

MetalRock Designs by Tony Finocchio is handcrafted mountain lifestyle jewelry, made in Telluride and capturing the true essence of mountain living through precious metals and gemstones.

Rinkevich Gallery

The Rinkevich Gallery is featuring “Ancient Conversations,” a series of paintings by Margaret Rinkevich.

Rinkevich’s paintings are frequently informed by tribal peoples, ancient monuments and material culture. During the painting process, ancient prototypes are disassembled and rearranged. What emerges within the forms and colors are the vestiges of ancient thought processes – communicating the absence of the communicators.

Slate Gray Gallery

Slate Gray Gallery is presenting “Telluride Unveiled” by Ryan Bonneau.

Titled after Bonneau’s newest book, the exhibition features a photographic journey through the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado. The long-term Telluride local captures the essence of outdoor adventure, nature, and travel.

Bonneau’s photographs feature incredible dimensionality, unsurpassed detail, and brilliant luminosity. His eye for capturing stunning landscapes of Telluride often leave people speechless.

Growing up in rural Vermont, Ryan developed a deep love for wild places at a very early age. Privileged to have the beautiful San Juan Mountains as his backyard for two decades, it is in their jagged peaks and wildflower meadows he is most at home.

Ryan’s photography has been showcased in National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Sierra Club, Backpacker, The Arizona Tourism Department and a variety of other publications.

Celebrate Ryan Bonneau’s newest book, “Telluride Unveiled” at the Art Walk Reception and Book Launch Party on December 16.

South Fir Street is featuring the artworks of Judy Haas.

Haas embellishes music posters, record covers, antique & vintage posters, movie posters.

Tellurado Studio

The Tellurado Studio is featuring the adventurous fine art of Markus Pierson.

Pierson explores a mythic narrative with his Coyote series, each piece symbolic of wanderlust and living beyond  boundaries. The protagonists of these hand-embellished prints are the Coyotes: enigmatic figures searching for the next big adventure.

Telluride Arts HQ Gallery

Telluride Arts HQ Gallery is featuring “Telluride Outlaws: Exposed in Ingrid’s Darkroom.”

Ingrid Lundahl was the only guest of the Sheridan Hotel, Christmas of 1977. Thus began her freelance photography career. She’s captured many local and national legends since then. From her Nugget Building darkroom, Ingrid processed film and printed black-and-whites for decades. She shoots digitally now, but her heart still connects with the gauzy glory of film:

“I like to think my images connect to the happy side of humanity. Whimsical, fun, and full of visual wonder.”

This installation is a comprehensive collection of proof prints and exposure strips from 1978 to the early 2000s. Ingrid squirreled them away in anticipation of an historic event such as Telluride Arts’ 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Ingrid’s first book, Telluride: The Outlaw Spirit of a Colorado Town,” is available in the gallery, along with archival, fine-art prints. Some images on display are first-time prints; others are the only print available of that image; all hearken to Telluride’s Outlaw Age.

Telluride Gallery of Fine Art

The Telluride Gallery of Fine Art is presenting “Old Friends: Tony Berlant and James Hayward,” from Thursday, December 16, 2021 to Sunday, January 23, 2022.

Tony Berlant and James Hayward met during graduate studies at UCLA in 1966 and have been trusted friends and supporters of each other, in and out of the studio, ever since. As their friendship has grown, their individual artistic pursuits have evolved in both focus and refinement.

Numerous honors and awards solidify them as instrumental figures in the West Coast art movement.

An exhibition catalog is available through the gallery which features archival photographs of the two artists and an introductory essay by critic David Pagel who notes: “(This exhibition is) a modestly ambitious attempt to consider friendship as an essential ingredient of art, especially when it comes to the works made by Tony and Jimmy.”

The Telluride Gallery is excited to bring together the works of these two artists who by different means have pursued the same end: beauty, delight, and pure visual pleasure.

The Tony Newlin Gallery is featuring the nature and wildlife photography of Tony Newlin. 

This winter season the gallery is excited to present five New Release photographs captured this past year: Aspen Mist, Beach Bum, Room with a View, The Sheriff, and Tranquility.
