“I love working at the bench. For me, that’s where it all happens; materials, eyes, hands and a lifetime of experiences interact in spontaneous ways. A bridge, ocean currents, stone textures, plant systems, and a dance performance can come together in a single moment, in a single piece of jewelry. The rawness and the purity of what emerges not only excites and inspires me, but clearly speaks a common language with women who like me have sought a life rich with experiences,” said Elizabeth Garvin.
Elizabeth Garvin was born into a creative family of artists and designers. The metal artist graduated with honors from New York University in 1986, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, with further studies, at the Parsons School of Design and the Massachusetts College of Art.
In her New York studio, each hand-crafted piece (of 18K gold, 950 palladium, oxidized silver and diamonds) is a study of geometric shapes, each unique piece expressing Elizabeth’s interest in natural sciences, geology and metallurgy. Studies of dance, music, painting, sculpture, film, photography, also inform her approach to metal-smithing. The result? Bold, feminine, relatable bling exhibited internationally in galleries and museum stores.
“When a woman designs jewelry for another woman, there’s a sensitivity…carefully honed to suit a woman’s body, to flow with her lifestyle, and to become part of her own personal expression,” Elizabeth said in a prior interview.
