SM County: Emergency Farm Loans Available!

SM County: Emergency Farm Loans Available!

San Miguel County designated primary natural disaster area due to drought.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) designated 63 Colorado counties as primary natural disaster areas due to drought, including San Miguel County. Data from the U.S. Drought Monitor illustrates San Miguel County’s drought intensity being extreme to exceptional, making the county eligible for assistance.

The natural disaster designation allows the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs, including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.

“We are grateful that this program is available to help our agricultural community rebuild and recover from any losses experienced during drought conditions,” said County Manager Mike Bordogna. “We encourage farmers and ranchers to apply for assistance if needed.”

Loan applications are due on November 5, 2021. Applications and further information can be found at https://www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-and-services/farm-loan-programs/emergency-farm-loans/index.
