11 May Original Thinkers Presents Jane Ferguson on Yemen
Telluride-based Original Thinkers is a fresh and thoughtful ideas festival regularly scheduled for September 30 – October 3, 2021, in Telluride. The weekend generally features 10 programs, each built around a particular idea explored through a compelling mix of speakers, films, performance, and art. The program typically delves into the human condition by focusing on the intersection of ideas and individual stories.
As Original Thinkers founder and ringleader David Holbrooke has said about his event: “There are deep and universal truths in our own lives that we know will resonate with anyone and when we find those stories and showcase them, they provide an indelible experience for an audience.”

Dear Original Thinkers –
There are challenging geopolitical situations across the planet but there is a strong argument to be made that the most intractable one is in Yemen, which has been torn apart by civil war. There has been no one who has done more reporting from the West on this impossible war than Jane Ferguson who recently returned there for a series of reports for PBS NewsHour. Of course, we have spoken with Jane several times for Original Thinkers Presents so once again, we turn to this indispensable war correspondent to help us understand what is happening in Yemen.
Personally, I am deeply grateful to Jane for taking the time to do this with us. It is easy to skip past the headlines about Yemen, much less actually delve into this deeply complicated and incredibly hard to understand conflict so please watch her pieces and take a look at our conversation.
For those of you in Telluride, I also hope you will turn out for an in-person version of OT Presents at the Telluride Transfer Warehouse this upcoming Wednesday, May 12. We are screening the timely and terrific documentary “Women in Blue:” that looks at the Minneapolis police force before and after the murder of George Floyd. We’ll follow the film with a brief, pre-recorded Q&A with the filmmaker Deirdre Fishel and her impact partner Ganesha Martin. The screening is free to the public and will begin at sundown.
Thanks so much for being a part of what we are doing here at Original Thinkers…
