Leadership transition at the Telluride Foundation was announced today by the Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Daniel Tishman.

“At our recent Board meeting, Paul Major informed us of his upcoming plans to transition out of his role as our CEO.,” Tishman said. “After more than 20 years and since its inception, Paul has established The Telluride Foundation as one of the country’s top community foundations, not only as a model of how to innovate and solve problems, but as a center for community building and philanthropy.”

Tishman indicated that directors were unanimous in their deep appreciation for Paul and his leadership.

“We have long admired him, as have others,” Tishman said. “He has created a tremendous community resource and tackled difficult and complex problems, such as rural economic transition, early childhood education, affordable housing, and expanding broadband access to mention a few. He leaves big shoes to fill.”

“This is the right time for the Foundation to transition and for me personally,” said Major. “While the Foundation has a regional mission, it has a national profile. The search process will attract a great person to lead for the next 20 years. As I’ve told people, this is the greatest job in the country; you do meaningful work every day to help people and communities, work side by side with amazing donors, board members, and staff, and you get to live in a beautiful place”.

The board of directors has formed a special committee to search for a replacement and a search firm will be selected shortly. According to Tishman:

“This will be a comprehensive process, and Paul has accepted the board’s request that he remain in his current position until the selection process and on-boarding of the new CEO is complete.”

This year, 2021, marks 20 years of making more possible through the Telluride Foundation’s commitment to enrich the quality of life of the residents, visitors, and workforce of the Telluride region.

The Telluride Foundation is a nonprofit, apolitical community foundation that makes grants to nonprofits, owns and operates programs that meet emerging and unmet community needs, and makes investments. The Foundation approaches this work through the lens of its core values of inclusion, self-reliance, and innovation. Its work is funded through the generous support of individual donors as well as grants from state and national foundations.

The Foundation hopes the community will join it in celebrating its 20th anniversary as it honors the nonprofits, donors, and community members who have all partnered together to achieve a significant positive impact on the region.
