The Town of Mountain Village is pleased to announce the annual Market on the Plaza starts Wednesday, June 24, and runs every Wednesday through September 2, 2020, with socially distanced protocols in place to keep residents and visitors safe.

Nothing says summertime in Colorado like an open-air market, especially amid the sun-soaked scenery surrounding Mountain Village.

Mountain Village’s pedestrian-friendly Heritage Plaza comes alive with tents each Wednesday beginning June 24 with vendors selling farm-fresh produce and food, crafts and health products and more for the annual Market on the Plaza. Patrons can also enjoy Mountain Village’s Common Consumption Area as they peruse the Market’s offerings. The Market will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m each week.

“While our summer plans continue to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Market on the Plaza is dedicated to providing an outdoor community market for locals and guests alike,” said Zoe Dohnal, Mountain Village’s business development and sustainability senior manager. “We stand by our market motto, ‘local made, local grown and local loved’ and remain loyal to our patrons and vendors offering a variety of regional food, produce and crafts.”

Now in its 10th year, Market on the Plaza is a vibrant local community market providing an avenue to support regional and local businesses that offer homegrown food and homemade products.

“In this a historic year for Market on the Plaza, we look forward to seeing the community come out to enjoy our beautiful mountain air ,while shopping local and supporting regional artisans and agriculture,” Dohnal added.

Again, The Market runs every Wednesday, June 24 through Sept 2, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s Market on the Plaza will feature a number of rules in light of the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep vendors and shoppers safe.

All vendors and customers will be asked to wear masks, available for visitors at the Market on the Plaza informational booth. Other guidelines include staying at home if you are sick, encouraging high-risk individuals to come during the first hour of the markets, hand-sanitizing, shopping with your eyes and not your hands and keeping a six-foot distance from others.

“We are excited to see our community come out this summer for each week’s Market on the Plaza,” said Mountain Village Mayor Laila Benitez. “Each year the market gets bigger and better and given the recent increased interest in more regional food sources, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to support local growers and artisans. The Market on the Plaza is not only a place to pick up fresh produce, baked goods and prepared foods, it is also about safely coming together as a community to support our local economy and the neighbors that help make it happen.”

Shoppers can expect to find a wide array of farm produce, including eggs, fruits and vegetables, goat milk and cheeses, jams and marmalades, garden herbs and oils.

Market on the Plaza also features leathers, jewelry, quilts, textiles, handmade soaps, balms and lotions, hand-carved wood items, healing products, and kitchen goods, among other items.

“I encourage everyone to come out and support the Market and our local farmers and merchants,” Benitez concluded.
