The flowers that bloom in the spring
Tra la
Breathe promise of merry sunshine —
As we merrily dance and we sing
Tra la
We welcome the hope that they bring
Tra la
Of a summer of roses and wine
Of a summer of roses and wine
And that’s what we mean when we say that a thing
Is welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring

The flowers that bloom in the spring…
That little ditty is from “The Mikado,” one of the most popular works by the 19th-century’s hot duo of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Set in Edo-era Japan, the two-act comic operetta is a satire of Victorian culture masquerading as a convoluted and kitschy love story. The hero of the spoof is Nanki-Poo, who sang the song that provides the perfect segue to the subject at hand: the Telluride Choral SpringSing,
Artistic director Rhonda Muckerman titled the upcoming program “In the Garden” in hopes that the concert inspires everyone “to break through the deep snows of winter, grow and reach towards the sun, allowing it to warm your heart towards a bright new day.”
SpringSing 2019 digs deep into the mystery and beauty of Mother Nature’s garden, literally and figuratively.
“Featuring our Chamber Singers, Chorale, OmniVoce, Choristers and Training Choir members, accompanied by Susan Ensor and Alan Bradley, we are happy to perform music from the Ola Gjeilo, the Beatles, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Leonard Bernstein. Crossing all genres as is our custom in the Telluride Choral Society,” explains Muckerman.
Come to SpringSing and revel in the beautiful bouquet of songs Muckerman has artistically arranged for your listening pleasure.
