20 Feb Sheridan Arts Foundation: Theater Seat Fundraising Campaign
Help the Sheridan Arts Foundation buy new theater seats. The nonprofit can reach it goal of $99,656 if just 100 community members donate $1,000 each. The 70+-year-old theater seats are officially retired and the SAF is now in the process of purchasing replicas of its original seats from 1913. To meet a May 2019 deadline for installation, SAF needs to place its order NOW. Donors who contribute $1,000 or more will be recognized with a plaque on a new theater seat. Existing seat plaques will be transferred to the new seats.

The Sheridan Opera House needs the help of the Telluride community to replace its theater seats now.
Despite continued maintenance, the 70+-year-old seats are beyond repair. They were removed from the theater in early December and replaced by seats on loan from the Telluride Film Festival and the Telluride Conference Center in the interim.
Telluride’s Opera House is now in the process of purchasing replicas of its 1913 original seats through the Irwin Seating Company. That will set the Sheridan Arts Foundation back $99,656. All existing seat plaques will be transferred to the new seat in the same location.
To date, the Sheridan Arts Foundation (which runs the Opera House) has already raised $27,000.
Please help the nonprofit raise the remaining funds over the next 60 days so it can make its May 2019 installation date. If just 73 community members donated $1,000 each, the deal is done.
However, the SAF is asking the community for donations of any size to help raise those funds. Donate here or mail your check to P.O. Box 2680, Telluride, CO 81435 or just drop off a payment at the Opera House office on the third floor of the building. All donations are fully tax deductible. Donations of $1,000 or more will be recognized with a name plaque on a seat in the theater.
If you’ve ever enjoyed a movie, a concert or a quality children’s play in this beautiful theater, please consider making a donation to help the SAF buy new seats.
The Sheridan Opera House has served and entertained the community since 1913 and is the home to festivals such as Mountainfilm, Telluride Film Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and more, as well as hosting events like countless weddings, concerts and the Wild West Fest.
The Sheridan Arts Foundation was formed in 1991 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to preserve and restore the historic Sheridan Opera House as an arts and cultural resource for the Telluride community; bring quality arts and cultural events to the town of Telluride; and provide local and national with access and exposure to the arts through education. It is one of the few buildings in Colorado with both an interior and an exterior historic designation.
The SAF is giving away its old theater seats for FREE on a first-come, first-served basis.
The four pick-up days are: 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, February 23; Wednesday, February 27; Friday, March 8; and Saturday, March 16. Please plan on bringing someone to help you carry the seats. They are only available in pairs, weigh over 100 pounds and are located in the basement of the building.
Sheridan Opera House staff is NOT available to help move any of the seats. If you are unable to make it to any of those pick up days, please contact Ronnie Palamar at 970.728.6363, ext. 1, to arrange an earlier pick-up date.
