Ah Haa: 2019 Adult Classes Kick Off With an Action-Packed January

Baby it’s COLD outside! Warm up this winter while trying something new at Telluride’s Ah Haa School for the Arts.

Tom Miller, Composition 2018

In the coming weeks, Ah Haa is offering a wide and fantastic array of classes, from dancing to photography, writing to painting and plenty more exciting options.

Shake a shoe into 2019 with Lance Waring and Laura Colbert, who will teach Swing Dancing, Thursdays, Jan. 17 – 24, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Bring a partner and learn how to swing to almost any kind of music so you can hit the dance floor with confidence, whatever the event. Pair this with Ah Haa’s Date Night: Try the Wheel, Friday, Jan. 18, 6 – 8 p.m. Who needs Valentine’s Day as an excuse anyway?

Students interested in honing their photography skills can join local artist Sarah Schwab for Building a Portrait: A Photography Workshop, Monday – Wednesday, Jan. 21 – 23, 1 – 5 p.m.

Another practical class, particularly for those interested in fighting off the flu, is Julie Peterson’s Herbal Medicine Making: Infusions, Decoctions, Kshira Paka & Nourishing Tonics, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Interested in deepening your writing skills? Check out Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! with Craig Childs on Monday, Jan. 28, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., when students will dive into their experiences with animals and the indelible mark it leaves on all of us.

For utilitarian artists who enjoy silver smithing, there’s Three Silver Rings with Tracey Belt, Monday-Thursday, Jan. 28-31, 1-4 p.m.

Finally, January closes with an in-depth abstract workshop with Santa Fe-based visiting artist Tom Miller, who teaches Material, Content & Context: Abstract Painting, Wednesday – Friday, Jan. 30 – Feb. 1, 1 – 6 p.m.  This intensive three-day course will help students develop and explore strategies for making formally abstract paintings. This class is open to beginners and experienced painters alike.

Don’t forget Ah Haa’s recurring single-day classes: Qi Gong with Susie Meade (Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 14 – March 13, 8:45 – 9:45 a.m.) and Robert Weatherford’s Painting From Within (Tuesdays or Thursdays, Jan. 15 – Feb. 28, 9:30 – 1:30 p.m.).

While January is packed full of classes, Ah Haa’s February and March schedule is equally varied and exciting.

Visiting artists Jill Carver, Diane Meyer, Rebecca Crowell, Britt Schroeter, Laura Raborn, Bruce Gomez and Deborah Sussex will teach fantastic new courses, and local artists and artisans will offer a wide array of workshops in different mediums.
