Second Chance: The Love Doc

Second Chance: The Love Doc

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which many may think wouldn’t mean much to a homeless dog like me – but you would be way wrong. Thanksgiving reminds us to be grateful for our lives and for those who make our lives better each day, so of course my ears are perking. What an ideal time of year to be caught in the act of being grateful for your animal friends. How about taking a short moment right now to remember all that your pets give to you, how they transform your view and engagement with the world around you.

The human-animal bond is a very mysterious and rather inexplicable thing. But it is magical. People who have not experienced deep pet love might see us as rather thankless parasites of our human counterparts. Nothing could be further from the truth. But if you ask animal lovers why humans and animals bond so deeply the answers take on a life of their own. The stories are varied, rich, alive – and real.

Animal lovers see the beauty that exists in the undeniably symbiotic and durable connections between animals and humans. They see that the human-animal bond as one of mutually beneficial interdependence and, for some, a spiritual and transformational exchange.

Take that to your Thanksgiving dinner.

Speaking of gratitude…I would like to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to Second Chance’s broad community of support. The organization, which has rescued me and thousands of others for nearly 25 years, is a community based operation for which I feel deep gratitude. Thank you for believing in and supporting the Second Chance mission of protecting and nurturing.

And yes, I will now take advantage of the spirit of the Holiday Season to make an appeal of the heart. I have been waiting at Second Chance for almost two years now to find a home. This holiday season has to be the one for me.

I am a Great Pyrenees and Blue Heeler mix, which means there is a lot of me to love. Around here they call me the Love Doctor (Doc for short). Although I need to be the only pet in the family, if you open your heart and home to me I will happily bestow upon you the healing powers of love and like a(and lick) on a daily basis.

In addition to spooning out my love medicine I also enjoy playing fetch, going for short hikes and swimming. My tender personality will brighten your every day. The staff here at Second Chance have made it their goal to find me a home for the Holidays. Let me show you why.

In closing, although I am growing weary of waiting, I am very thankful that I have been given the opportunity simply by being here at Second Chance to meet my true love some day…

Happy Thanksgiving!
