The BEST show about Black Bear Awareness you will EVER see – and really, probably the only one that exists) A raucous, ridiculous, ADULT show filled with bear safety. Fun for the whole family. (By “whole family” Telluride Theatre means adults who like to drink in bars and laugh their asses off.)
Conceived nine years ago, BEAR IT! an original show, played to SOLD OUT Telluride audiences in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017… and now its BACK for an encore. Each show is a unique installment created in collaboration with the cast.
In 2009, Town approached Telluride Theatre to write a play for the adult community to educate and enlighten and through pure entertainment. Every year since, the Town of Telluride’s Black Bear Awareness Week has taught the community about our furry, intelligent neighbors and ways to stay safe in black bear country.
Karen Guglielmone, the Public Works manager for the Town of Telluride, who originated the request for the play, says,
“BEAR IT! is the best and most fun educational opportunity about black bears anywhere in the state of Colorado!… By this time, we all may be getting tired of saying the same tired sayings over and over about bear awareness. But remember that the message is new to visitors and newbies in our community. Stay accurate. The continued good health and safety of bears and us humans is at stake over the long term. Remember, if we love our bears, we’ll take the actions we need to keep them safe.”
“We love creating this show. It is so much fun and we really get to let our freak flags fly. Bears are funny and fun… but also serious business. We care deeply about our furry friends and being tasked with a show to put forth how to care for our ursine neighbors is serious business.” states Sasha Sullivan, Telluride Theatre’s Artistic Director and director of BEAR IT!.
BEAR IT! Bear Safety for the 21st Century is part forest rangers, part revival, part musical, part bears (and much much more…) this is a MUST SEE show.
