Telluride Arts: Art + Architecture Week +, 7/16 – 7/22!

Join Telluride Arts for a week of events culminating in the Telluride Art + Architecture home tours, Saturday and Sunday, July 21 & 22.

Join Tesla at the Telluride Arts District Headquarters during Art + Architecture from Friday, July 19th through Saturday, July 20th from 10:00am – 5:00pm each day. The highlight of the weekend, the self-guided tours span 5 different stops per day, 10 total, with transportation between provided by Telluride Express.

On Saturday, the tour takes place in historic Telluride; on Sunday the event moves to Mountain Village. 

Tours feature new and historic homes.

One specially curated alternative stop on Sunday is the Wagner Ski Factory, which includes a site-specific installation by local artist Danielle DeRoberts. It is not to be missed.

Each venue features site tours with architects and designers; tastings by local chefs with wine and cocktail pairings; and rooms showcasing the works of deeply talented local artists, dancers, musicians.

Throughout the weekend, listen to a live broadcast on KOTO with Debbie Millman, the host of Design Matters, an acclaimed podcast about design and an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians, and other luminaries of contemporary thought.

The roll up to Telluride Arts’ Art + Architecture Weekend is a week of free events that celebrate art, food, architecture.

This year the event has grown in quality and scope, with more local and visiting artists, designers, and architects participating, the expansion into Mountain Village for the Sunday tour and a handful of special events.

The homes on the tour should provide plenty of inspiration from historic to contemporary. All feature exquisite views and elegant, surprising touches throughout.

A total of $5000 in prizes will be awarded for the most stellar projects of the weekend. All 10 teams showcased during the tours are eligible.

MONDAY

7-10 pm: Vaudeville Show in partnership with Telluride’s Wilkinson Library at the Transfer Warehouse.

TUESDAY,

7-9 pm: Twenty(by)Telluride at Madeline Hotel & Residences, M Lounge, Mountain Village.

Twenty(by) Telluride, a signature Telluride Arts event, provides insight into what drives artists’ creativity through fun, fast-paced slide presentations.

THURSDAY

6-9 pm: Patrons’ Party with guest architect David J Lewis, catered by Angelee Aurillo at a private home on the East End of Telluride.

FRIDAY

10 am: guest artist Rose Jaffe from Washington D.C. begins painting a live mural at Gondola Plaza, Telluride, that will continue throughout the weekend.

Rose is known for illustrating, painting and carving images of women activists, a prolific body of multimedia works in bold colors, overlapping lines, and feminine bodies.

10 am: Special community balloon installation with Jason Hackenwerth at Transfer Warehouse.

Jason is part of a growing dialogue of artists exploring experiential art and uses latex balloons as an alternative medium to create massive forms that are at once extraordinary and simple.

3 pm: Industry Meet + Greet at Telluride Arts HQ

Network with peers and weekend participants over a glass of wine.

5-7 pm: Gallery opening for David J Lewis.

Join Telluride Arts for a special progressive presentation about the Manual of Section exhibit in Gallery 81435, then walk over to the Telluride Transfer Warehouse to learn about plans for the restoration with David J Lewis.

David is a principal at LTL Architects, from NYC, who in addition to winning numerous awards for their Manual of Section book and architecture, has created a design for the Warehouse that transforms the space through a creative engagement between old and new, past, present, and future, between flexible and highly calibrated spaces.

SATURDAY

9 am: Marie Flanigan presentation, Location TBD.

10 am: Historic Walking Tour of Telluride Historic Landmark District depart from Transfer Warehouse.

12 pm: Debbie Millman interviews Rose Jaffe live on KOTO.

12-5 pm: A + A Telluride Home Tour. (See above details.)

12-5 pm: Kids Build! Workshop for Ages 5-14, in partnership with Pinhead Institute at Elks Park.

6-11:30 pm: Art + Science of Cocktails, in partnership with Pinhead Institute at Transfer Warehouse.

SUNDAY

9-11 am: Transfer Warehouse Project Presentation in the Telluride Library Program Room.

11 am: Debbie Millman interviews Jason Hackenwerth live on KOTO.

12-5 pm: A + A Mountain Village Home Tour.

12-5 pm: Kids Build! Workshop for Ages 5-14, in partnership with Pinhead Institute at Elks Park.

5:30-7:30 pm: Closing Party at The Lumiére in Mountain Village.

THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND

Pop into the Telluride Transfer Warehouse to meet local artist Katy Parnello, and enjoy her newest installation, an electrolier light house which acts as a lookout tower into the future of the Warehouse.

The tower’s height mimics the rooftop deck of the new building and provides a unique view into the box canyon. The lighthouse is a negative-space structure which will light up at sunset, creating a beacon to attract attention to the project.

One to two viewers are allowed at a time to personally experience the height and magnitude of the structure.

Complete with bed and record player, the tower is a private sanctuary that allows everyone to connect with the past and contemplate the future.
