Fashion Friday: Jean & Denim Trends

Fashion Friday: Jean & Denim Trends

Fashion Friday 2.0 brings back a popular TIO fashion blog, first featuring Kristin Holbrook of Two Skirts, now brought to you by Erin Busbee and sponsored by Kristin and Two Skirts.

What goes around…

This week Erin’s focus is on jean and denim trends. At Two Skirts, Kim Lake explains it comes down to the following: cropped flares (to wear with booties); high-rise waisted jeans (“They are still huge.”); and a new line from Japan, reminiscent of  Levis, i.e., thicker denim/heavy cotton.

Read on to learn what Erin has to say about other jeans: cuffed, uncuffed, distressed, split seam and more.

Then watch her video for even more info.

DENIM TRENDS #1 | CUFFED JEANS

The first denim trend… is cuffed jeans. You can decide if you want to do one long cuff (see picture below for reference), a double cuff or one short cuff. These skinny jeans look equally chic down.

STYLE TIP: IF YOU FIND A PAIR OF JEANS YOU LOVE, DO ORDER 2 PAIRS!ONE SIZE UP FOR SUPREME COMFORT AND ONE SIZE DOWN FOR SKINNY DAYS.

DENIM TRENDS #2 | DISTRESSED JEANS

The second denim trend is… distressed jeans. Not everyone likes distressing all over the legs. It gets tougher to pull off as we get older too. The placement on these jeans is also great. A little on the thighs, and some at the ankle. Often when skinny jeans are distressed at the knees, the skin pops out in an unflattering way.

DENIM TRENDS #3 | UNDONE HEM JEANS

The third denim trend I want to tackle…is the undone or ‘raw’ hemline. The length on these skinny jeans is PERFECT for me, because they are cropped. I often search for cropped jeans instead of regular length because I know they’ll be perfect for my petite frame.

DENIM TRENDS #4 | SPLIT HEM JEANS

The last denim trend I wanted to highlight is… the split hem jeans. The split hem… frames your ankles… and your shoes. When you wear these jeans, I would definitely plan on showing off some fab shoes, like these gorgeous studded sandals!

STYLE TIP: WHEN WEARING CROPPED JEANS, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HEMLINE BY WEARING SHOW-STOPPING SHOES!

More about Two Skirts:

Kristin Holbrook & Joanne Brown, co-owners, Two Skirts.

Two Skirts is a high-end women’s boutique with two locations: Telluride, Colorado and San Francisco, California. The store carries apparel, accessories, make-up, shoes, and jewelry.

It is fair to say that the history of Two Skirts began down the road a piece: Kristin followed the man who became her husband, (Kevin), who followed his ski school client, Joanne Brown, from Vail to Telluride.

“Kevin decided Telluride was going to be the next great place, so he moved to town in 1998. I followed in 1999 with a desire to open a business for two reasons: 1) I wanted to have something of my own to keep me in this remote town since I knew my husband would never leave; and 2), the timing seemed right to become an entrepreneur in Telluride,” explained Kristin.

Kristin approached Joanne about partnering in a women’s boutique.

The concept for Two Skirts was born in 2000.
