Telluride Theatre’s upcoming Telluride Theatre Sings! includes the Pick-A-Prize Raffle. The fun evening is a fundraiser for the nonprofit. At 6 p.m., the Pick-A-Prize Raffle begins (and cash bar opens). On Saturday, August 26, Telluride Theatre presents a night of music and fun at Telluride’s historic Sheridan Opera House.

Telluride Theatre Sings! is a live and lively show during which company performers cover the songs of a famous musical group – or, as is the case this year, two groups. The local singers and dancers are backed by a house band. The evening also includes a pick-a-prize raffle.

“This is a ONE NIGHT ONLY, truly unique event,” says Sasha Sullivan, artistic director, Telluride Theatre. “Telluride Theatre Sings! is in its 3rd year and people tell us how much they love this very different fundraiser. As always, we have very talented people presenting creative interpretations of songs we all know and love. This year we are doing a mash-up of sorts, combining two super popular bands from two different generations: The Beach Boys and The Beastie Boys. All of that plus the raffle, which we make part of the show, creates an exciting event. Something totally different and over-the-top fun. Everyone gets a chance to win. And our company wins too.”

The unique raffle, brought to Telluride straight from Sullivan’s native New Jersey, is called a Pick-A-Prize Raffle (aka Tricky Tray or Basket Raffle). Participants buy raffle tickets for a small fee (starting at $20 for a sheet of 20 tickets) and place them in the jars of ONLY the items they want to win. There is also a 50/50 raffle, which means as the pot grows, the prize grows. The lucky winner gets 50%; the other 50% goes to support Telluride Theatre. Prize winners are drawn and announced throughout the show.

“We wanted to do a summer fundraiser that is uniquely Telluride Theatre’s style – fun, entertaining, and inclusive. Throw a BIG party! Everyone can come and enjoy the show and have a chance to win awesome prizes, while being well entertained,” said Sullivan.

The Sheridan SHOW Bar opens at 6 p.m. The raffle is played, while cocktails are served. Then, at 8 p.m., the audience heads upstairs for the show.

“I am so excited for this year’s event. Its going to be a great party, a truly fun rock-concert/show/live-gameshow,” added Sullivan. “This is a great way to support Telluride Theatre and our year-round season of theatrical performance and education in the region.”
