The year 2017 marks the first year of the 41-year old Telluride Jazz Festival with new producers, SBG Productions, at the helm. Through targeted changes, festival organizers aim to expand on the festival’s historic legacy and elevate the vanguard of the existing event to a new level. A slate of innovative Patron and VIP Experience options have been introduced paving the way for an enhanced level of comfort and customization. The revamped “Jazz After Dark” late-night show format allows ticket-holders more flexibility to attend all of venues on the late night circuit.
“This year is an exciting one for us as we introduce a fresh vibe and energy to the festival through a new variety of music. I’m honored to have Mavis Staples headlining our first year as the new event organizers of the Jazz Festival” said Steve Gumble, Festival Director. “Mavis Staples has a household name that crosses generations of listeners. Even with a career that spans over five decades, she’s still hard at work with new collaborations that keep her name very relevant in the music world today. In that same regard, the latest jazz album from Macy Gray presented the perfect opportunity to bring the contemporary R&B, jazz and soul singer to Telluride. Lastly, Bootsy Collins has the ideal complement of funk and soul to round out the weekend. Many of the artists he’s worked with, such as James Brown and George Clinton, have graced the Town Park stage before and we are eagerly looking forward to his first appearance in Telluride.”
Telluride Town Park is renowned as one of America’s most scenic live music venues. Nestled among the aspen trees and surrounded by 13,000 foot mountain peaks, artists will perform on the new, state-of-the-art Main Stage. In addition, a secondary stage, free of admission, is set to host weekend programming including artist panel discussions, workshops, and student band performances in the center of Telluride.
A complete festival schedule will be announced in the late spring.
