TIO Denver: Denver Digerati Launches 9/24

Under the direction of Plus Gallery owner Ivar Zeile, Denver Digerati, launches SUPERNOVA, first ever Outdoor Festival of Digital Animation and Art in Downtown Denver, Colorado on Saturday September 24, 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. Visit the catalog here.

Denver Digerati and the Denver Theatre District will offer up a fresh perspective on the most popular form of entertainment with the SUPERNOVA Outdoor Festival of Digital Animation and Art.

The festival emphasizes new, exciting realms in digital animation and art through a variety of programs from 4-11 p.m. on the 14th Street LED screens at Champa and Arapahoe and a special competition screening in the DPAC Galleria.

Winning pieces will be honored by three distinguished guest jurors, Claudia Maté, Jonathan Monaghan, and Morehshin Allahyari, all chosen for their pioneering work within the fields of new media, contemporary art, and digital motion graphics on an international level. The festival will conclude with a live new-media music performance by Denver-based Thug Entrancer and artist Milton Melvin Croissant III.

SUPERNOVA utilizes a robust international artist network and unique infrastructure developed by Denver Digerati through its series Friday Flash – one of the nation’s leading outdoor digital art programs. Friday Flash is presented to the public on L.E.D. screens situated in the Denver Theatre District as a new public art viewing experience illuminating how technology is altering all facets of our daily lives in extraordinary ways.

SUPERNOVA endeavors to take this art form to the next level through an explosive, multi-faceted digital entertainment sphere that will engage all audiences. Hour-long programs commencing at 4 p.m. will include a History Of Denver Digerati’s Friday Flash, Digital Painting And Abstract Art, Solo Artist Spotlights By John Butler and Adam Ferriss, Kid Wonder: Student Shorts and Animation For All Ages, Local and CU Denver Artworks, Director’s Picks, Machinima and Gaming Related Art, and a radical showcase of Music Videos.

SUPERNOVA will represent innovation in both art and experience.

SUPERNOVA will also feature an all-day educational forum with special presentations by guest jurors Claudia Maté (UK), Jonathan Monaghan(Washington, D.C.) and Morehshin Allahyari (NYC) as well as Festival Director Ivar Zeile (Denver, CO). The forum, a limited attendance, ticketed event, will include professional critiques, panel discussions and small-screen art engagements throughout the day at the Commons on Champa Innovation Center.

Registration takes place via AXS.com.

Sponsor’s fully elevate the initiative and validate the effort as a distinct and truly innovative arts platform. No other city in the world has presented a program such as this for free, to the public, on downtown LED screens before.

Putting SUPERNOVA together has been a massive work in progress, one that began five years ago with testing a new infrastructure that’s unique to Denver, evolving into the formation of Denver Digerati and the Friday Flashhappenings.

SUPERNOVA expands those efforts ten-fold, delivering blocks of content along thematic lines that show how robust and dynamic digital animation and art are expanding today. There will be more updates regarding the festival programming schedule and artists each week leading up to the big event, but here’s a quick view of the much anticipated programming blocks.

SUPERNOVA’s promotional trailer was designed by Plus Gallery artist and creative genius Milton Melvin Croissant III, one of the event’s biggest inspirations and someone who really connects the dots when it comes to contemporary art, digital animation, and global vision. Check out his work for the festival on the event’s VIMEO page, as well as at the festival where the artist will be showcased in the Digerati History and Music Video programs. The night  is capped off with a special collaboration between Croissant and local music act Thug Entrancer.

Croissant is also creating a limited edition poster, available only at the festival or through SUPERNOVA headquarters, Poster release will coincide with our VIP preview night, September 23.

As with all things in today’s complex world, spreading the word through networks will be very valuable to the success of this endeavor, so please share SUPERNOVA with everyone you can. It should prove to be a wonderful experience for the young, old, and everyone inbetween.

Thee best way for most-up-to-date news is via the Denver Digerati Facebook page.
