10 Jun Mountain Village: Market on the Plaza Returns
Cue the overture to the “Sound of Music.”
In the Telluride region, the hills are alive with the sound of chirping birds, babbling mountain streams, and the constant chatter of festivarians gathering weekly to enjoy the rich cultural bounty.
Also the bounty offered up weekly at the Market on the Plaza in the Town of Mountain Village.
Nothing says summertime in Colorado like an open-air market set against a breathtakingly lush and majestic high-alpine backdrop.
Beginning June 15, the pedestrian-friendly Heritage Plaza once again comes alive with white tents and Colorado-proud vendors: the Market on the Plaza returns to Mountain Village.
“We are happy to announce that not only are last year’s vendors returning, but also a number of new vendors, all conspiring to create an open air market offering a wide variety of products in an inspiring, fun atmosphere,” said Nichole Zangara Riley, director of marketing and business development for Mountain Village.
Patrons can, of course, expect the basics: farm produce, including eggs, fruits and vegetables, goats milk and cheeses, garden herbs and seasonings.
“Farmers come a long way to provide fresh, home-grown food to the community at our markets, and they rarely sell out. We invite all locals to come shop on Wednesdays so that our growers go home empty-handed,” says Deanna Drew, director of environmental services and market coordinator for the Town.
In addition, Heritage Plaza will be dotted with purveyors of arts and crafts: leathers, jewelry, pottery, textiles, soaps and lotions, tinctures and tonics, among other more unusual items.
In addition, the Wilkinson Public Library plans to bring more entertainment and programming to Mountain Village Center; and Telski’s EcoAdventures team hosts a booth featuring free crafts and games for children.
“The library’s programming helps round out the market and gives patrons a fun dose of the unconventional,” explained Zangara Riley. “The market’s day-time entertainment begins June 29 and include youth activities like face-painting and summer games. In addition to the entertainment, the library will sell a wide variety used books.”
Now in its fifth year, the Market runs every Wednesday through August 17, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
