Please allow me introduce myself. My name is Tarzan. I’m a one-year-old Red Heeler/Catahoula (CataHeeler) freshly arrived at Second Chance.

CataHeelers like me are awesome athletes built to be active and have a good time, so I am very lucky to be homeless in a region where that is the mindset of so many of the humans. Surrounded by mountains to climb and water to splash through, I’m prepackaged for the outdoor adventurous person or family.

Since I’ve arrived the staff have been teaching me manners and self-control and I am learning that the more well behaved I am, the more fun I get to have. I’ve enjoying this game called “fetch.” I’m not expert yet but I love it. I like other dogs too but, not to brag, I’ve found that not many can keep up with me. That’s why fetch is nice because the ball never seems to get tired.

Another cool thing about me…I checked the Second Chance annals – not the ones on my butt, I think that is spelled with one “n” anyway – and verified that I am the first dog at Second Chance with the name of Tarzan. Don’t expect to find me swinging from the trees, but my name is definitely a testament to my distinctive qualities and agile nature.

This is the neat thing about adopting a pet – we are all so unique and varied that everyone can find a lifelong furry companion that matches their own personality and lifestyle. For example, I realize not everyone has the gusto I do and for those more laid-back people you would love my mellow friend Idina.

Idina

Idina was very shy feline when she first came to Second Chance, but she really came out of her shell when the staff moved her into one of the cat communal rooms. She’s much happier and more active now, but she is still a lounger at heart. She loves to curl up and nap and the only thing she would love more is someone to scratch her behind the ears and gently stroke her fur.

Idina has had a hard time finding a home because she is so relaxed. She gets along well with other cats, but isn’t much for playing with them so it’s  been hard for her to get noticed by adopters with all the  young and energetic cats running and playing around her.

So come down to the Second Chance Shelter to meet your match – someone like me who will get you off the couch or someone like Idina who will join you on the couch. We’re both up to date on vaccinations, spayed and neutered, and microchipped. All we need is a loving home.
