19 Dec “Hateful Eight” (and Telluride, sort of?) in the News
New York? Meh. True, The Big Apple is home to the Zeigfeld Theatre and the Rainbow Room where the movie had its glittering New York premiere and after-party this week. But “The Hateful Eight” was Made in Telluride. Pride of authorship allows us to claim some of the fame, right? Below is the New York Times review of opening night. Let’s just say one star was too busy greeting guests at home to take bows with the rest of the star-studded cast.
Is there a director in Hollywood besides Quentin Tarantino whom actors are dying to work for, in scenes too violent to be described in a newspaper?
Not according to Kurt Russell, who in 2007 expired for Mr. Tarantino in his installment of “Grindhouse,” “Death Proof,” and returns this month in “The Hateful Eight,” playing a bounty hunter tasked with transporting a murderous woman to a hangman.
“There’s no better writer of dialogue,” Mr. Russell said Monday night as he made his way down the red carpet outside the Ziegfeld Theater with his partner, Goldie Hawn.
Nearby was Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays the bounty and thankfully has much nicer teeth in real life than on screen. “It was so much fun,” Ms. Leigh said, standing there in her long, sleeveless gray and black, floral-print Rodarte dress, as she discussed the months she spent literally shackled to Mr. Russell…
