27 Oct Telluride Foundation: Community Grant Deadline & Workshop
Just a reminder that the Community Grants Deadline is Monday, October 26, 5 p.m. All grant information can be found here.
The Telluride Foundation encourages you to invite your board and attend a nonprofit workshop, “Overcoming the Overhead Myth.” The conversation takes place Thursday November 5, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Telluride Wilkinson Library Program Room.
The workshop will focus on a myth that persists in nonprofit organizations that low overhead costs equates to high organizational efficiency. However, current research shows that under-investing in administrative overhead is associated with low performance in the nonprofit sector.
The workshop will consist of a screening of a webinar conducted by Stanford Social Innovation Review, led by Jacob Harold, President & CEO of Guidestar USA, an organization that has lead a movement to spread awareness of the aforementioned myth. Harold co-leads the webinar with Ann Goggins Gregory, COO of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, and Jan Masaoka, CEO of California Association of Nonprofits.
Nonprofit staff and board members are encouraged to attend to better understand the importance of financing overhead and how to better explain the importance to stakeholders, donors and funders. Participants will review why the nonprofit starvation cycle exists in the sector and how organizations that invested in administration subsequently improved their programmatic work.
Under discussion will be strategies for explaining to funders the importance of overhead costs for future success and tips for evaluating whether grantees are skimping on crucial investment areas when budgeting.
Please contact Sarah Hendley at the Telluride Foundation at 970-728-8717 or sarah@telluridefoundation.org to RSVP for this workshop or for more information.
