13 Sep Telluride Blues & Brews: Free Concert to Kick Off
Telluride Blues & Brews kicks off with free concert in Mountain Village on Thursday, September 17, 5 – 7 p.m.
Join Telluride Blues & Brews Festival in Mountain Village’s Sunset Plaza for the Sunset Blues Concert featuring Hillstomp with opener The Johnson County Coroners. The event – a short and scenic Gondola ride away from the Town of Telluride – is free and open to the public.
Be prepared to lace up your stompin’ boots for Portland’s Hillstomp featuring “Hurricane” Henry Christian on slide guitar and “Lord Johnny” Johnson on drums (or lids and cans). The duo’s distinctive brand of DIY hill country and blues frequently incorporates an arsenal of creative”instruments” including buckets and washboards and always makes for an entertaining evening. Hillstomp’s memorable live performances create a magic that cannot be rehearsed, combining Mississippi trance blues, Appalachia, and punkabilly for a unique and infectious sound that will definitely get you on your feet.
The Johnson County Coroners will open the show at 5 p.m. Established in Montrose, Colorado, The Johnson County Coroners are a heavy-hitting 5-piece blues and rock band with a fiery blend of Texas Blues, Mississippi Delta Blues, Colorado Blues and good old-fashioned “Cold-Steel-Blues.”
Both band’s sets are scheduled to highlight the scenic sunset backdrop from the lawn in the Mountain Village Sunset Plaza. The Town of Mountain Village’s Entertainment District allows a fluid social atmosphere where alcoholic beverages purchased from associated restaurants can be taken into the Common Consumption Area and enjoyed during the concert.
The free event will take place rain or shine.
Supporting sponsors are The Town of Mountain Village, Telluride Ski Resort, Sierra Nevada Brewing, SBG Productions, and the Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association (TMVOA).
