See full schedule below.
Now in its 16th year, the free outdoor live music program, The Sunset Concerts Series, overlooking the scenic valley continues with Pure Prairie League or PPL.
Pure Prairie League is an American country rock band whose roots were planted between 1965 and 1969 in Waverly, Ohio, with Craig Fuller, Terry Shea, Tommy McGrail, Jim Caughlan, and John Call.
In 1970, McGrail named the band after a fictional 19th-century temperance union featured in the 1939 Errol Flynn cowboy movie “Dodge City.” The band remained active through the late 1980s, experienced several aborted rebirths in the 1990s and in 2004, however, by 2014, PPL was really back in business and doing at least 100 shows a year, treating us to music that sounds as good today as it did back in the late-60s.
“People come to hear the music the way it was played back then,” Fuller asserts. “We may have improved upon the fidelity, but when we do a song off one of our records, we do it just like it was recorded.”
The band’s longevity is a testament to the timelessness of the music. As they write for a new project, PPL has returned to their roots –no sax, but pedal steel. It’s no surprise that after all these years, their sound is what Country Radio is about, proving good music is good music no matter when it is made or where it is played.
The Pure Prairie League proves you can go home again.
