08 Jul Telluride Plein Air: Postscript
The Sheridan Arts Foundation is proud to announce one of the most successful Telluride Plein Air events in its 12-year history.
As its largest fundraiser of the year, the SAF hosted 31 artists in and around the Telluride region to paint for one week, culminating in a three-day art exhibition and sale. Forty percent of all sales revenues will support community programming at the Sheridan Opera House (owned and operated by the Sheridan Arts Foundation).
Please see event highlights and details below:
With an added third sale day, the SAF saw a 30% increase in event revenue over 2014. (Telluride and Aspen combined-Aspen Plein Air is taking a hiatus this summer.)
The Quick Draw award was given to artist Danny Griego of San Diego, CA. He received an $800 cash award and the painting of Telluride’s beloved Coffee Cowboy was sold to the highest bidder during our live auction in Elks Park.
Artist Choice Awards: 1st Place ($1,000 cash) granted to Carl Bretzke of Minnesota; 2nd Place (full page ad in Plein Air Magazine) to John P. Lasater IV of Arkansas; 3rd Place (quarter page ad in Southwest Art Magazine) to Patrick Saunders of Missouri.
New this year, the Sheridan Arts Foundation gathered votes from the public for a Crowd Favorite. Mat Barber Kennedy of Chicago won the $1,000 cash prize. Kirsten Anderson of California won honorable mention.
The Sheridan Arts Foundation would like to thank all purchasers, sponsors and event supporters for helping us make this event a resounding success. A huge help in keeping event costs down is having the artists hosted in homes around town. We would like to thank all artist hosts from this past event and encourage other home owners to participate in hosting an artist next year.
Please note: If you are interested in applying to participate in the 2016 event, selected through a juried process, applications will be available online here.
