“A bold, gripping thriller,” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
The Telluride Film Festival and Wilkinson Public Library are thrilled to present ALL IS LOST (2013, 115 minutes, Rated PG-13), part of the summer GRAND ADVENTURES series.
J.C. Chandor’s epic tale of survival had its North American premiere at the 2013 Telluride Film Festival.
Deep in the Indian Ocean (“1700 nautical miles from the Sumatra Straits”), a man (Robert Redford) says, “I’m sorry. I know that means little at this point, but I am. I tried. I think you would all agree that I tried. To be true, to be strong, to be kind, to love, to be right, but I wasn’t…All is lost.”
The 2015 summer series, GRAND ADVENTURES, features films about hitting the road (or venturing out to sea, as it were). These selections highlight Wilkinson Public Library’s adult summer learning program, “Choose Your Own Adventure,” which focuses on the idea of experiential learning and pushing personal frontiers, which ALL IS LOST certainly does.
Following the world premiere screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival, Redford received a standing ovation. The Independent’s Geoffrey McNab said the film was “utterly compelling viewing.” Alan Scherstuhl of The Village Voice called the film “a genuine nail-biter, scrupulously made and fully involving, elemental in its simplicity.”
TFF and WPL have combined forces to help folks step out of their comfort zones. And, there are amazing “experiential” prizes for those willing to take risks! Multiple ways to get involved in the summer program at the library, include attending Cinematheque, or other fantastic WPL programs.
Cinematheque is a collaboration between the library and the Film Festival that brings Festival-quality films year-round to the community of Telluride. As always, admission is free and patrons will enjoy food, drink and lively discussion as part of the SHOW.
Pre-show and snacks, 5:30 p.m.; show time is 6 p.m.
