July 16 to 23, 2015 Visible planets: Morning: none Evening: Venus, Jupiter, Saturn
Light and dark. Day and night. Man and woman. Hot and cold. Love and hate. Faith and fear. Good and bad. Good and evil. Evil?
Our world is a world of polarities, opposites, forever seeking balance. Our Universe and cosmos seek resolution, and eternally, resolutions evolve over time. Every action generates an equal and opposite reaction. It’s a mathematical equation of energetic force and mass, put in to words by Sir Isaac Newton in his Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, first published in 1687. Thus, Newton’s Laws of Motion, combined with his Law of Universal Gravitation, explained astronomer Johannes Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion, three scientific laws describing the motion of planets around the Sun, published between 1609-1619.
While Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion improved the heliocentric theory of Nicolaus Copernicus, published in 1543 – the year of his death – as a body of work entitled On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres, Newton’s Laws of Motion illuminated the dynamics of astronomy, deepened the understanding cosmology and laid the foundation for classical mechanical physics.
But we don’t need a science degree in physics to understand a body and a force acting upon that body, or the reaction to that force. We live and breathe it every day of every year of our lives upon this planet Earth.
Today I see the light and dark, good and bad, good and evil in the world. I understand the polarized worlds of doubt and faith, yin and yang, positive and negative, hope and despair, strength and weakness, fear and courage, joy and sorrow. I know that pain and suffering engenders compassion, but I have also watched pain and suffering give birth to the darkness of more pain and more suffering, hatred, war, killing and revenge. We really don’t know why or understand how two different people, children, exposed to the same basic circumstances and environment, same biological parents, turn out so uniquely different.
Mystics, magicians, medicine men and women, scientists, gurus, writers, cowboys, cowgirls, philosophers, lay men and women – seekers of wisdom, understanding and enlightenment of every shape and size, kind and stripe – have pondered, and will continue to ponder, these questions. Forever and ever, eternal seekers. As long as we humans inhabit the Earth. As long as we walk and live and breathe. And think and feel.
Rainstorms, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, droughts and other cataclysmic natural disasters, along with famine, war and genocide. All in the mix, all in the equation. And yet there is always the “x” factor in that equation, the unknown. The inevitable Great Mystery. The mystical and divine, the metaphysical “quark” of today’s quantum physics.
Happy Cancer New Moon. May you discover your own magical “x” factor and bring your equation into balance, joy and harmony. At least for a minute, a moment in the present. The eternal present. Eternity. Peace, love and starlight…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The July 15th Cancer New Moon turns your attention inward and close to home and family. What do you need to live and thrive, feel nurtured and secure? These are questions to ponder and answer in the coming weeks. Consider how important roots are to the health of plants. We humans are very much the same as plants. Also pay attention to emotionally fueled actions and reactions. For quick relief, slow down.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The week begins with a delicate crescent Moon above the western horizon at dusk. On July 18th a lunar conjunction with Venus, your planetary ruler, portends several days of enhanced romantic and creative opportunity. Whether it is someone you find attractive or a heartfelt desire of some other sort, this is a great time to put the wheels in motion. Communicate feelings, take action and simply do your best.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) A late degree Cancer New Moon initiates a lunar month of personal action and responsibility regarding personal desires and agendas. As a multi-dimensional, multi-talented Gemini, you are capable of wearing many hats, juggling assignments and balancing a lot of plates on sticks. You can pull it off, but at a price. Now it’s time to prune the bush and practice the art of focus. One thing and one day at a time.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Candles flicker and cakes are cut as the Cancer birthday month marks another revolution around the Sun. It’s time to celebrate life in all its beauty and bounty. Consider paying homage to the Mother Earth, carve out a ritual or say a prayer of gratitude for your many gifts, talents and blessings. Mars and Mercury in your sign call for the deepening of your emotional intelligence. Mind and heart, take the high road.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) Jovial, generous, giant planet Jupiter moves through the late degrees of Leo this week, preparing for an exit in mid-August. You have to admit, it’s been a wild, exciting, enriching ride. Opportunities knocked and you opened the door. And your world has expanded exponentially. Now it’s time to focus on what you’ve created and make it work as efficiently as possible. Practice patience and stay on the path.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 23) Clean out the cobwebs and shake out the rugs. Wash the windows and sweep the floor. It’s time to prepare for a very important guest and it’s wise to put your house in order. Giant Jupiter, the ancient king of gods and lord of thunder, is preparing for an entrance into Virgo in mid-August. This is actually a very fortunate thing, much like winning the lottery or finding buried treasure. The better you are, the better it will be.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 23) Personal and professional goals continue as a theme as a fresh new Moon strikes an emotionally charged chord within your heart and soul. What are you doing to make the world a more peaceful, beautiful, loving place? Are you using natural talents and abilities to create beauty and promote peace? Do you practice justice, honesty, compassion and harmony in your relationships? Do your best and let the Universe take care of the rest.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Voluptuous Venus enters virginal Virgo this week, calming fires of desire and returning you to Earth in matters of love, romance and finance. In the process, you may discover a renewed sense of hope and inspiration. You can see the forest for the trees, the meaning behind the madness and the great gifts of life’s ongoing magical mystery tour. Surround yourself with goodness and just continue doing the next right thing.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 20) The last week of zodiac Cancer gives birth to a graceful, delicate Cancer New Moon. Shining above the western horizon in twilight, it joins force with beautiful Venus on July 18th for an evening of enchantment. Take note of your goals and aspirations now, pay attention to heartfelt emotions and practice the art of discernment. Put less on your plate, be realistic with your time and focus on what’s right in front of you.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Love and money planet Venus enters Virgo this week for an extended stay, longer than usual due to an upcoming July 24th retrograde. This is good news for wizened Capricorns, a celestial trine that portends a rather long period of expansion, enlightenment and opportunity for those willing to walk the high road of spiritual truth and justice. Be honest with others, focus on goodness, gratitude and think positive.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Jupiter’s last few weeks in lion-hearted Leo encourage you to be as loving, spiritually generous and positive as possible regarding others. Fairness, justice and equanimity are allies in your yearly journey around the Sun. Today you are gifted and blessed, in position to help and assist those less fortunate than you are. So be of service. Also favored are programs of self-improvement. Practice daily, do the work.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) As Master Teacher Saturn wraps up it’s last few weeks in Scorpio and prepares to resume forward motion into Sagittarius, take note of your spiritual philosophies and belief systems. How have you restructured your understanding of life and the after life? Is there more than matter in the Universe? What is spirit? Relationships move into a sweet space as Venus moves into Virgo. Enjoy the ones you love, love the ones you’re with.
