The Taurus zodiac month lasts from approximately April 19^th to May 20^th of every year, but due to the fact that the time it takes the Earth to complete one revolution around the Sun – aka the natural astrological year – is fractionally different from our Julian calendar year, the exact moment and hour of the solstices and equinoxes, along with the Sun’s entrance and exit into each tropical zodiac sign varies slightly from year to year.

In 2015, the Sun entered Taurus on April 20^th @ 3:42 am MDT. In 2014, this took place on April 19^th @ 9:56 pm MDT. Thus, if you are born “on the cusp” – the two or three days between each zodiac sign – it is wise to ask an astrologer, or go online, and find out whether your Sun-sign was in the last degrees of the sign ending or the early degrees of the one just beginning. In either case, you are what is known as a “cusp” baby, born with one foot in each sign, a rather special and unique karma that gifts you with an unusual combination of wisdom and innocence. There is great wisdom, knowledge and understanding in things ruled by the ending sign, and a childlike curiosity, naiveté and enthusiasm about the things coming under the beginning sign’s rulership.

The Aries/Taurus cusp holds a cup filled with memories of self-will, ego and war. Quick to act and ready to go, Aries DNA is all about survival, instinct and primal desire. It is the seed thrust forth; impatient and impulsive, a predator in search of prey. Courageous, independent and positive, Aries fire-energy excites and explores, uses self-referral as a compass and loves adventure. Early degree Aries is what I often refer to as “non-premeditated selfishness.” It’s a self-awareness that is being born out of the numinous, selfless waters of Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, sign of non-self and no-self, where everything merges into One.

Late degree Aries, on the other hand, has experienced everything there is to experience regarding “self” – including self-denial, self-deception and self-destruction – and is ready to drop the burdensome ego in its restless, relentless pursuit of “me” and “mine” in favor of something more stable, sustainable and secure. And that brings us to the fixed-earth energy of Taurus the Bull, sign of security and stability, patience, perseverance and peace.
