18 Mar Telluride Mountain School: Ski/Dance Party!
We live in an era where it is increasingly hard to connect. Sure, we’ve got our tweets and our texts. Our Facebook and FaceTimes. Yet, real, genuine connection is harder to find. I’m talking about the kind of connection you feel when you tell a story and are understand. Or when you walk into a room and are known.
Yet, at the Telluride Mountain School, these kinds of connections happen daily. They happen on our trips when we travel to places such as Morocco, Costa Rica, Cambodia, and Germany. They happen when we go into the backcountry and hike Utah’s canyons and raft its rivers. They happen in our morning meetings when guests from all over the world come to speak or perform music. And they happen every day in our classrooms.
Telluride Mountain School is a community. A place where it is safe to try new things. A place where learning doesn’t stop when the day ends. A place where you can be known. It has been an honor to live in Telluride for the past 13 years and be a part of its community. Yet, it’s been a particular honor to teach at and have my children attend the Telluride Mountain School, a unique environment in a world where real communities are at a premium.
Saturday, March 28, Telluride Mountain School and the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club invite the community to attend the 1st Annual Retro Ski & Dance Party. The adult-only event takes place at La Piazza del Villaggio in Mountain Village and benefits two great community organizations: Telluride Mountain School and the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club. The highly anticipated collaboration is the first of its kind for Telluride Mountain School. Funds will benefit the scholarship and other essential programs.
“Every year our parents’ association puts on a ‘must attend’ fundraiser that is a blast for our families and guests and raises much-needed dollars to help underwrite our outdoor education trips and scholarship program. Without this annual fundraiser, we would not be able to provide access to all of the meaningful, unique learning experiences that TMS students regularly get to enjoy as part of their school year,” said Head of School, Karen Walker.
The $65 ticket price includes an Italian dinner, beer, wine, and signature cocktails, as well as dancing and a chance to bid on several silent auction items such as Marmot tents, a Vespa scooter, festival passes, a romantic getaway to Dunton River Camp, a Poc Helmet and goggles and much, much more. Guests will have a chance to win some cold hard cash as well by participating in a 50/50 raffle!
Tickets are available for purchase at Telluride Mountain School, Rustico Ristorante, La Piazza del Villaggio, Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club or online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
