The fourth annual TEDxTellurideLive will simulcast one day of the world-famous TED Conference. TEDxTellurideLive will be presented free at the Michael D. Palm Theatre, 721 W. Colorado Ave., Telluride, Colorado on Tuesday, March 17, 9:30 am – 7:45 pm. Registration at www.tedxtelluridelive.com is required to attend. The theme of this year’s conference is “Truth and Dare.” And TED just announced the exciting speaker line-up for the March 17 simulcast, but organizer Katrine Formby cautions: “TED releases the line-up about six weeks before the TED Conference and sometimes the speaker lineup changes depending on current events and speaker schedules. Please view the schedule below as subject to change.”
About the world of TED:
TED means business.
The TED Conference, which started out small in 1984 as a four-day conference in the marina town of Long Beach, California, is now a global enterprise dedicated to “Ideas Worth Spreading” – and cashing in on, which is why a large slice of the audience is comprised of suits from venture capital firms, who sign up early every year to mine the pearls from the speakers on the podium. Speakers get only 18 minutes to sell their story, generally no biggie for some of the greatest minds in three worlds in Technology, Entertainment, Design. (Hence the illustrative acronym.)
TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-tweala, Sai Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes places this year in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler.
The annual TEDGlobal Conference will be held this year in October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; and an educational initiative TED- Ed.
TED has established the annual TED Prize, which provides support for exceptional individuals who hope to change the world. The prize helps them translate dreams into action. TED Fellows program helps world- changing innovators from around the globe amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
Then there is TEDx.
What is TEDx and TED xTellurideLive?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading and “trying something new without fear,” another offshoot the main conference is a program called TEDx.
TEDx is all about local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our local event is called TEDxTellurideLive, where x = independently organized TED event. It was organized by Katrine and Bill Formby, producers, with help from a core group of their friends. including Amy Cook, Janet Kask, Eric Cummings, Marta Tarbell, Teresa Westman, Stu Fraser, Ginny Fraser, Dean Rolly, Amy Levek, Jim Bedford and Luci Reeve.
“At our TEDxTellurideLive event, TEDTalks video featuring dynamic speakers should spark deep discussion and connection in a small group,” explains Katrine.
