19 Dec Between the Covers: Book It!
Editor’s note: Book It! is a weekly column from Daiva Chesonis, co-owner of your favorite local bookstore, Between the Covers. The blog will offer tips about what to look for in the store when you stop by to browse or for a cuppa at High Alpine Coffee Bar.
Ho-ho-hope that it’s a book under the tree!
The senses rule at Between the Covers: visual, musical, elemental, delicious:
“Uelsmann Untitled: A Retrospective”: For over half a century, Jerry Uelsmann’s photography has influenced and wowed. Photoshop? Nope. Since 1959, it’s been all about “the alchemy of the darkroom.” Signed editions to boot, from when he was in town for Mountainfilm. Represented by the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art for a very long time.
“Telluride Bluegrass Festival: Forty Years of Festivation”: 216 pages of fun! Complete festival lineups, full-page festival posters, year by year accounts, stunning imagery, plus the holographic Sam Bush jammin’ away on the cover. Only 5,000 in print. Besides, rebuilding after a flood takes money … (See related post on Telluride Inside…and Out, including an interview with Pastor Mustard, Dan Sadowsky.)
“Molecules: The Elements and the Architecture of Everything”: Remember “Elements” by Theodore Gray? Coolest depiction of the Periodic Table ever and a major science category favorite at BTC. Oliver Sachs blurbed it simply: “Wonderful!” And thus “Molecules” will look next to your copy of “Elements.”
Is that toffee on the counter? Why, yes, it is. It’s Ruth’s Toffee fresh from the West End of the county. Available in two sizes and in milk or dark. Aside from trying not to eat the whole box in one sitting, crumbled up on vanilla ice cream is a good option.
BTC will be open until 5:59 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day.
