26 Nov Poets’ Corner: Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving
Gifted sculptor, writer, husband, friend, TIO regular contributor (check out his wonderful stories in his regular column, Outlaw Reflections, a look ahead at Telluride’s raunchy past) Oleh Lysiak know he has lots to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. As the weather grows cold and with the holidays bearing down upon us, sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees – or reasons to be grateful when immersed in the seething cauldron of over-the-top behavior at family gatherings. Oleh’s simple poem sets the record straight.
THANKSGIVING
Got a truck that runs,
a big orange cat,
two brown dogs,
air to breathe,
plenty to eat,
plenty to drink,
rivers to cross,
mountains to ski,
beaches to walk,
oceans to sail,
a brain that functions,
a heart that feels,
eyes that see clearly,
hands that work,
attitude that’ll rise
to the occasion
and best of all –
a friend like you.
