August 7 to 14, 2014 Visible planets: Morning: Venus Evening: Mars, Saturn
I have to admit, I’ve been caught up in all the passion and heat of the Leo summer sizzle. And the Leo cross-quarter week super-electromagnetism was just right. A quick trip to Denver gave me a break from my ever-growing [weeds included] garden, daily cooking schedule and faraway country lifestyle. High country wildflowers and low country hayfields – glistening in the sun and shimmering in the rain – have graced my days and nights, but a trip over the Continental Divide to the land of my birth gave me a better perspective on the world at large.
I love to travel, and I love to stay home. I am torn between the comfort and solace of my peaceful, sweet, backyard home-on-the-range and the vibrant, up-to-the-minute, rich, racing style of the city. Art and culture, diversity, dining, sports, color and cuisine. I met my younger sister Karla, brother Jeff and nephew Blake for dinner at Maggiano’s Little Italy, one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the world. Shrimp scampi and strawberry cheesecake – yummmm! – amidst the company of my lifelong companions – my family – sweet! I rendezvoused with Molly – one of my favorite BFFs – for another Italian dinner at a restaurant in Hilltop – my childhood neighborhood – located in the old Aylard’s drugstore, where I used to go for lunch at the soda fountain in the 6th grade with friends on Fridays, and buy candy bars a few years later walking home from Hill Junior High.
Molly dated my older brother Jeff in high school, went off to college at Yale and now lives in New Orleans, Louisiana – a place I love to visit. She works as an English professor at Tulane University, is a brilliant psychotherapist, scholar, author and my own spiritual advisor – lucky me! She is currently on sabbatical and was visiting her folks and family in Denver, so it gave me [an extra] reason to go. We also took a fast walk – and I do mean fast – through Washington Park, the place, at 16, where I attended my first “be in,” saw the Jefferson Airplane sing “White Rabbit” and witnessed a plethora of hippies in tie-dye and bell-bottoms, smoking pot and wearing flowers in their hair. Summer 1968.
Strolls down memory lane. Nostalgia and sweet sentiments of love. Here and there. Here and gone. I love the Leo zodiac month, the power of passion, the fire of desire.
God bless and may the goddess of love, peace and joy be with you. Happy Leo Full Moon!
