06 Jul Telluride Hot Shot Photo Winners
The 2014 Telluride July 4th parade was over, the streets cleaned and the camp chairs that decorated both sides of Colorado Avenue were removed. Saturday afternoon the appointed judges of the Hot Shot Photo Contest, Stu, Scott, Erica Judy, Anna and I gathered at Katrine and Bill Formby’s beautiful penthouse overlooking Telluride’s Main Street for the important task of selecting the winners of the 5th Annual photo contest begun by the Formbys. This task was supplemented by the necessary intake of fine beverages and delicious small food.
There was heated discussion in support of each judge’s favorite images and some reminders of the judging criteria: most importantly the most memorable photo that captures the spirit of July 4th, 2014 in San Miguel County, Colorado. In the end it was that most uncommon Telluride trait, compromise, that was necessary to produce the required results. Feel free to dispute the judges’ selections- we’ve already been over that ground!
First Place Winner, $500 Prize
Second Place, $300 Prize
Third Place, $100 Prize
Audience Choice, wins 100 custom U.S. Postage Stamps with your photo, legal for mailing a 1st class letter
In addition, ten entries earned an Honorable Mention, each receiving $50. Thanks for all participants and those who voted for their favorites. Thanks to my fellow judges, and particularly, thanks to Katrine and Bill Formby for sponsoring this fun event. We also appreciate the support of Ah Haa School for the Arts, The Nugget Building, the Watch Newspapers, Steaming Bean, Telluride Volunteer Fire Department, and Telluride Inside… and Out.
