SPARKy Productions: “Jaws” & Open Mic/Karaoke Nite Open Playwrights Fest Week

Telluride Playwrights Festival runs Tuesday, July 22 – Sunday, July 27. Passes, $50, on sale now at www.sheridanoperahouse.com.

As part of THE TELLURIDE PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL‘s week of theatre, Rachel Shaw Bowers, a member of SPARKy’s Board of Directors, will present Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. The screening takes place Tuesday night, July 22, at sundown, outside the Telluride Mountain Village Conference Center. “Jaws” is the third and penultimate film in SPARKy’s month-long LAWN CHAIR OPEN AIR MOVIE night. SPARK LAWN CHAIR MOVIES is in collaboration with the Wilkinson Public Library and the Telluride Mountain Village Conference Center.

The reason the Playwrights Festival is honoring JAWS in its festival program is because of the award-winning actor and playwright ROBERT SHAW, who plays the shark obsessed QUINT in the movie. Not only did Shaw star in many movies in the 60’s and 70’s, he also performed onstage as well – he had a formidable, well-trained shouting voice – across Britain and on Broadway, where his notable performances include Harold Pinter’s “Old Times” and “The Caretaker”; Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s “The Physicists” directed by Peter Brook; and “The Man in the Glass Booth,” inspired by the kidnapping and trial of Adolf Eichmann, written by Shaw himself, and directed by Pinter.

Rachel Shaw Bowers is the daughter of ROBERT SHAW and for the festival it is a real honor to have her talking about the movie and in her talented father.

The movie is free. All you need is a lawn chair and warm clothes.

On Wednesday, July 23, come to the Bean at 9 p.m. for an evening of Open Mic and Karaoke. Telluride Playwright Festival company members and the general public will be performing skits and music.
