Soggy Dog at The Peaks: Paint Your Pet Party

Soggy Dog at The Peaks: Paint Your Pet Party

Animals have inspired artists since the first cave paintings of deer and bison — and pet cats, dogs, birds, furry things in general continue to aid creativity with their beauty, humor, companionship, and overall cuteness.

Want to, ahem, unleash your inner David Hockney, Ai WeiWei, Jackson Pollack, Frida Kahlo. Pablo Picasso, Norman Rockwell, Georgia O’Keefe, Rene Magritte, Paul Klee, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci? Each of those brand name artists was obsessed with a pet and immortalized their furry friend in their art.

Paint your Pet

If your answer is “yes,” then you might want to attend the Paint Your Pet party at The Peaks, hosted by Kristine Rosen of Soggy Dog Grooming Boutique & Spaw and featuring artist Alyssa Graves of Art on the Brix.

Art on the Brix, according to its website, “combines the broad concept of ART to include all styles of creativity with the term BRIX, which refers to a scale of that measures the ultimate ripeness of a grape for harvest. Thus, art and wine – a perfect marriage.”

Here’s how the pet lovers art class works.

Sign up, preferably by email to soggydogridgway@gmail.com and include a favorite picture of your pet(s). The image gets traced onto a canvas so that when you arrive a little before class at The Peaks on Thursday, August 7, 5 – 8 p.m. you can enjoy great wine/beer/soda and food with your (two- and four-legged) friends and, at the same time,  create a great image of your furry friend(s). The idea is that you will go home with a completed work of art to frame or hang up as is on your wall. The fee of $100 includes traced canvas ready to paint, guided/personal instruction, first beverage (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available), and light appetizers.

All types of animals/pets qualify.

The deadline for participation is August 4 and spots are going quickly.

For further information, call The Peaks, 970-728-6800 and ask for the dog spa or extension 6221.
