Second Chance: Two Furs

Second Chance: Two Furs

Last week’s Second Chance Pet Column warned of the risks of adopting puppy siblings together, but promoted the fact it can actually be beneficial to adopt kitten siblings (or kittens of similar age). Well since that time, the cat rooms here have become even more crowded with kittens and so Second Chance is now offering a two-fur special (two for the fee of one) or ½ off kitten adoptions!

My name is Peridot and I am your host for today’s most important Pet Column, which is about getting us young felines firmly established into new homes.

This kitten promotional offer should not be mistaken for a de-valuing of the awesomeness of kittens, but simply an incentive for potential adopters to consider the benefits of kitten adoption at this time. So why is this a good time?  There is simply an overabundance right now at Second Chance of young, purring love-encapsulated-by-fur-and-whiskers who are in need new homes – and for kittens sooner is much better than later.

As kittens it is important that we continue our proper social and developmental process in a home environment rather than learning that shelter life is the norm. And although many of us are romping about cage free in Second Chance’s big open cat adoption room, we really need more space to play and more individual attention from our people.

Additionally, we don’t want our extra dose of kitten cuteness (which gives us a paw up over the older adoptable cats) to wear off before we can become adopted, so come meet us today!

We range in all shapes and colors and temperaments. Surely one or two of us will tickle your personal fancy so we can begin the start of a great new life together…

My littermates, Amthyst, Garnet, Amber, and I have only known this shelter as our home with our mom, Diamond. We are all true gems who are ready to sparkle and shine in our new lives beyond these walls. Our mom is young and so very darling that she too would qualify in the two-fur deal if anyone wants to adopt a mother and son combo for instance…

Awaken your soul…Adopt a kitten today!

Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.

By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)

Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties. Call the SCHS Helpline at 626-2273 to report a lost pet, learn about adopting a homeless pet, or about the SCHS Spay/Neuter, Volunteer, Feral Cat, or other Programs.
