16 Apr Wilkinson Library: New Book Return Drop Down Valley
Get-together to celebrate on April 22
Wilkinson Public Library and the Friends of the Library are pleased to announce that a new book return drop box has been installed on the porch of the M&M Mercantile in Placerville (240 Front St.) and is now in service. The drop box allows WPL’s down valley and Norwood patrons to return books and other materials without having to drive into town. The materials will be picked up Monday through Friday by WPL’s regular courier, who goes by every weekday as he brings books and other materials to WPL as part of the inter-library loan service. Books returned on Saturday and Sunday will be picked up on Monday and will be back dated to Friday so they will not accrue late fines.
“This is a service the library has wanted to offer to its patrons for quite a while. I am thrilled it has come to fruition. We hope our Down Valley patrons will find it convenient and that it helps them lower their carbon footprint,” says Interim Library Director Brenda Carns.
The drop box and three years of courier service fee are being paid for by Friends of the Library.
Friends of the Library president Nancy Landau says she is very pleased FOL could be a part of this new service for the community. That is just the sort of project the organization likes to support.
“The board heard from Down Valley patrons that a book return drop box is something they would really like to see. Kudos to library staff and FOL for seeing this through,” said WPL Board of Trustees President Brandt Garber.
There will be a small ribbon-cutting ceremony and party to officially celebrate the new drop box on Tuesday, April 22, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the M&M Mercantile. In case of inclement weather, festivities will be held in the Placerville Schoolhouse. Everyone is invited to come by for cupcakes and beverages and music, as well as some brief words from Interim Director Carns and FOL President Landau.
Wilkinson Public Library thanks Friends of the library for their financial support, as well as M&M Mercantile owner Cindy McCluer for generously allowing the library to place the box on the mercantile porch.
