27 Apr Sheridan Opera House: “Fantastic Mr. Fox”
“Fantastic Mr. Fox” is based on a story by Roald Dahl and adapted and directed by the Sheridan Arts Foundation’s founder & artistic director Jen Julia. It is performed by students from grades 3 – 5. Performances Friday, May 2 – Monday, May 5.
What do you call a lightning bolt that stretches ‘cross the sky?
What do you call a lemon squirt that gets you in the eye? What do you call a fancy band that toots and hoots and booms? What do you call a hotel ghost that clanks through all the rooms? It’s Fantastic!
And so begins the 46th SAF Young People’s Theater’s full-length musical production of “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
The script was adapted by artistic director Jen Julia from the classic story by Roald Dahl. Julia collaborated with Music Director Bob Israel to create original songs for the play.
“So much of Dahl’s writing consists of silly rhyming and wordplay. It was really fun to create a script and songs out of such a lively story with such vibrant characters.” Julia said. “And Bob’s music really brings the whole project to life.”
The story follows the bold and clever Mr. Fox and his family as they attempt to outwit three greedy farmers: Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Joined by a gang of fellow diggers (rabbits, badgers, moles and mice), the Foxes embark upon a truly wild adventure, aiming to outsmart the farmers and fill their bellies at the same time.
This hilarious musical tale stars 25 students in grades 3, 4, and 5 and will play at the historic Sheridan Opera House May 2-4, 6 p.m. nightly.
Tickets are $13 for adults, and $11 for kids 12 and under. Lap kids are free. Tickets for reserved seating and are available on the Sheridan Opera House website: www.sheridanoperahouse.com.
