20 Mar SPARKy Presents “War Horse” Simulcast at Palm, 3/25
The National Theatre’s multi-award-winning production of War Horse, seen by over four million people worldwide since its premiere at the National Theatre in 2007, will be broadcast live, thanks to SPARKy Productions, at Telluride’s Palm Theatre on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. 7 p.m. as part of National Theatre Live.

Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse is the powerful story of a young boy called Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who has been requisitioned to fight for the British in World War I. Caught in enemy crossfire, Joey ends up serving on both sides during the war before landing in No Man’s Land, while Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, War Horse features ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing and galloping horses to life on stage.
Cast includes, Ian Shaw (brother to Telluride local Rachel Bowers) who trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His work in the theatre includes Widowers’ Houses, The Importance of Being Earnest, Nude With Violin, The Philadelphia Story, The Brothers Karamazov (all at The Royal Exchange, Manchester), Much Ado About Nothing (West End), Three Sisters(Nuffield/Bath), Private Lives, Closer (Birmingham Rep), and The Rivals (Derby Playhouse & Philadelphia Walnut St). Television work includes Sharpe, Soldier Soldier, Medics, Wuthering Heights (ITV), The Queen (Channel 4), Ghost Hour, Silent Witness, Cambridge Spies, and the Emmy award winning Hiroshima (BBC). Film includes Century, Moondance, The Boys & Girl From County Clare, The Contract, and Johnny English Reborn.
War Horse is currently celebrating its sixth year on the London stage and is now on a tour of the UK and Ireland. The Broadway production of War Horse, which completed its run at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater earlier this year, was the winner of six Tony Awards including a Special Tony Award for Handspring Puppet Company.
