12 Mar Second Chance: Wine & Whiskers Weekend
Wine & Whiskers Weekend means fun, fashion, food & fur
There are fundraisers and there are fun-raisers. Second Chance Humane Society’s 7th Annual Wine & Whiskers Weekend indeed raises funds for a great cause – but it’s also more fun than a basket of puppies or kittens. The unique and energizing evenings directly benefit the region’s homeless pets in need through the Opening Night Mixer,Thursday March 20, and the Gala Event on Saturday March 22.
Thursday night (6:30-8:30 p.m.) is geared toward those most interested in seeing the infamous fashion cabaret. The spicy event combines fashion (straight from the Second Chance Thrift Shop), catwalking, dance, and music. Although there is a small silent auction prior to the show, the focus is on the roof-raising show.
Saturday (5:30 – 11:30 p.m.) is the Gala. The fun-packed, bursting- at-the-seams evening includes delectable catered fare, a hugely stocked silent auction, lively live auction, and the famous fashion cabaret, concluding with a dance party! Go big or go home right?
Tickets are $15 in advance for Thursday night ($20 at the door) and $40 in advance ($45/door) for Saturday night and will be limited for both evenings to assure that all have a seat. So get your tickets today! They are available at the Second Chance Thrift Shop in Ridgway or online at adoptmountainpets.org.
The Mission of Second Chance is saving animal’s lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and the human-animal bond. Fundraising events like Wine & Whiskers enable our efforts, but they depend upon strong community support from their broad service area. And furthermore, 2014 marks the 20 year Anniversary of Second Chance and rumor has it there will be some special surprises you won’t want to miss…
As the region’s only animal shelter, Second Chance Humane Society is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving San Miguel, Ouray and Montrose Counties with animal rescue and animal welfare programs. Second Chance does not euthanize adoptable pets for time or space and provides rehabilitative services for homeless pets with physical, emotional, and behavioral issues so that they can be adopted into loving forever homes.
My name is Radar. I am an awesome, lovable, eager- to- please two -year- old Swedish Scouting Kelpy and I am going to sneak you one last insider tip on the Fashion Cabaret…It being the 20-year anniversary and all about homeless pets like me being rescued by Second Chance…You may see a few adoptable cat-walking canines on the runway this year…We’ll do anything for a new home.
And the cat of the week is Lilly, a calico, who is only one-year-young and happily the center of attention here at Second Chance because of her jovial and playful nature. She is disappointed not to be attending Wine & Whiskers, but she too will be part of the show in a way that is won’t ruffle her fur.
Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.
By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)
Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties.
