The Sheridan Arts Foundation celebrates St. Patrick’s Day at the Sheridan Opera House with the Travelin’ McCourys featuring Billy Nershi of The String Cheese Incident and special Pert Near Sandstone live in concert on Monday, March, 17, 2014. The fun begins at 8 p.m. (Doors at 7:30 p.m.) Tickets are $30 general admission floor (seats will be out) and $35 reserved seats in the balcony.
No other band today has the same credentials for playing both traditional and progressive music than the Travelin’ McCourys. Comprised of 80 percent of the Del McCoury Band, as the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury, brothers Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) continue their father’s work of bringing joy to people’s live through the power of bluegrass music. With fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartram, the ensemble is loved and respected by bluegrass fans around the country. The McCourys don’t stand still, they are on the road, and online, entertaining audiences with live music that includes some of the best musicians and singers from all genres; always different, always exciting and always great music. They’ve toured with other greats such as Keller Williams and Yonder Mountain String Band, and this March, they hit the road with Billy Nershi.
Billy Nershi is a founding member and acoustic guitar player for the String Cheese Incident, a wildly popular jamband from Boulder, CO. Past side projects have included the Emmitt-Nershi Band with Leftover Salmon mandolin player Drew Emmitt, Honkytonk Homeslice, and now his most recent tour with the Travelin’ McCourys. They’ll be joined by opening support Pert Near Sandstone.
Pert Near Sandstone hails from Minnesota and has previously appeared at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Prairie Home Companion, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, Music City Roots and the International Bluegrass Music Conference. With four well-received, full-length original records and a 7” single (‘Ship of Fools’ released April 2, 2013) under their belt, Pert Near Sandstone continues to build momentum as they prepare to release a new album of original material in April of 2014. The forthcoming record promises to showcase the evolution of the band’s sound and will push them further into the spotlight as international leaders of the modern American stringband movement.
