27 Dec Telluride Theatre: “Dude & Bro” & Why Support
Telluride Theatre‘s latest production was a Christmas show, “Dude & Bro’ s A Christmas Carol,” very very very loosely based on the Charles Dickens classic.
If you missed it, you are sorry.
In this particular satire, Sasha took no prisoners, pounding sacred cows into hamburger meat: hungry non-profits; locals, particularly the ski bums, also hungry all the time, who got detoured on their way to the rest of their lives and think navel gazing is a path to enlightenment; tourists; Texans; and developers. And thanks to an abundantly talented cast – particularly the leads, Colin Sullivan as Dude and Sam Burgess as Bro, but really everyone who delivered their lines AND sang on key – all the barbs hit their mark, yet – and here’s the rub – no one felt the poke. At least not long enough to protest. Sasha managed to deliver the pain with a wink and smile. That’s genius.
Personally I think Sasha Sullivan could write about diuretics and make the subject funny. Which brings us to “Urinetown,” Telluride Theatre’s next big show (March 11 – 16).
“Urinetown” is yet another comic romp from Telluride Theatre that suggests life is a carnival sideshow: weird and wonderful.
Miss it and the joke is on you.
Thanks to Sasha (and cast and crew) for another memorable evening of no-holds-barred fun and frolic.

URINETOWN – the musical, Palm Theatre
One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, URINETOWN is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. A terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! A comedic romp with an outrageous perspective that produces many moments of unbridled laughter. Fun for the whole family (PG)
