At its annual New Year’s Eve Gala, The Sheridan Arts Foundation is ringing in 2014 with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Jefferson Starship. The party takes place the Sheridan Opera House on Tuesday, December 31, 2013.
VIP Balcony Seats are sold out, but there are still general admission floor seats available for $100. The night includes party favors, dessert, a champagne toast at midnight and rock hits all night long.
Doors and will-call open at 9 p.m. when local DJ legend Jerry Bonafiglio (Ben Kerr) kicks off festivities as the opening band. Jefferson Starship takes the stage at 10:30 p.m. and will play into the night with a live midnight countdown on stage.
Jefferson Starship was created by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner and David Frieberg, also a former member of Jefferson Airplane, and co-founder of the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Celebrating four decades of classic rock, Jefferson Starship will play a night of hits, including “White Rabbit,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us,” Jane” and many more.
The band, descended from Jefferson Airplane, the band that performed at Monterey and Woodstock, at Altamont with the Rolling Stones, and shared the bill countless times with the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. Its music helped definite a generation focused on civil rights, environmental awareness and anti-war activism. The group will perform from its landmark recordings Dragonfly and Red Octopus.
Jefferson Starship is fronted by acclaimed singer Cathy Richardson, star of the play “Love, Janis” (a Broadway play). Long-time members Donny Baldwin (drums) and Chris Smith (keyboard/bass), and guitarist Jude Gold round out the lineup.
2013 proved to be another remarkable year for the stalwart, iconic band, whose diverse projects and performances include a symphony engagement, broadcast across the U.S. on HDNET and their heralded appearance on PBS, headlining “60s Rock, Pop & Soul,” which still airs coast to coast.
