17 Dec EcoAction Partners: Greening Your Holiday
Want to reduce your carbon footprint this holiday season? Here are our suggesting for “greening” your celebrations.
1. Use recycled wrapping paper! Draw or paint on brown paper bags, use old newspapers, or scraps of cloth: check the Free Box for interesting wrapping materials.
2. Use LED lights for your holiday lighting and unplug holiday lights during the day – or put them on a timer. LEDs use about 10X less energy than incandescent bulbs and last far longer.
3. Bring reusable bags on your holiday shopping trips.
4. Use postcards as holiday cards to eliminate waste from envelopes.
5. Store holiday meal leftovers in reusable containers.
6. Check out KOTO’s “Community Carpool” to offer or find a ride for your holiday travels!
7. Take an active role in managing our local National Forest lands. Harvest a tree from the Uncompahgre National Forest and help reduce fuel loads and overcrowding in the forest. Click here for more information on Uncompahgre National Forest permits in San Miguel and Ouray Counties, and for instructions on tree harvesting.
