Mountain Village’s new Green Energy Program features discounts on solar panels
Mountain Village wants to support its community members who want to invest in renewable energy. So the town, in partnership with Clean Energy Collection (CEC), will offer a discount to Mountain Village community members who purchase a solar panel at the San Miguel Power Association Community Solar Array in Paradox Valley. The discount of 40 cents per watt translates to about 13 percent off the current panel purchase price, or about a $100 savings per panel.
This discount program is available immediately, and will run through the end of the year. The intent is to maximize the discounts that are available to individual homes and businesses while leveraging town funds and encouraging homeowners and businesses to purchase clean energy.
“We are committed to achieving the energy goals we have set for the government,” Mayor Dan Jansen said. “But to really move the needle, we need full participation from the community. Investing in solar panels at the community solar array is a great opportunity for those without solar resources at their property to support renewable energy in the region.”
To receive the discount, panel purchases must be applied to a Mountain Village resident or business electricity meter and cannot be transferred for 10 years. In addition, residential customers who purchase a maximum of 12 panels (or three kilowatts) and commercial customers who purchase 40 panels (or 10 kilowatts) per meter will receive the discount.
According to the CEC, the purchase of a panel includes 100 percent maintenance and operations for 50 years with panels ideally situated for maximum energy production, which means more savings.
