16 Sep Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale
Telluride’s Friends of the Library was established to assist the San Miguel County Public Library District #1. The goals of the organization include promoting public awareness of library services, support for library improvement and advancement, and sponsoring cultural and educational programs & activities.
The Library Used Book Sale, the Friends’ major public fundraiser, takes place this year as follows:
Thursday, September 19: Pre-sale for FOL members and volunteers only.
Friday and Saturday, September 20 and September 21, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Note: Join or rejoin FOL at the sale (or pre-sale), get 4 books free – & your membership will be extended through 2014. As ever, kids get a free book on Saturday.
The books for sale are culled from the library shelves; many are donations from individuals in the community.
Prices? Nothing over $2.25, including books, CD’s DVD’s and audio books.
Unsold books go to Better World Books, which sells sell them on-line. FOL receives a percentage of the proceeds, five percent of which go to its choice of literacy projects such as Room to Read, Books For Africa, The Nat’l Center for Family Literacy & Worldfun. Since 2003, BWB has donated over $9 million to their literacy partners to start libraries, build schools, train teachers & provide scholarships, and have reused or recycled more than 54 million books.
Volunteers: Can you help?
