21 Apr SPARKY PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS “PEOPLE” AT PALM
Tuesday, April 30, 7 p.m., SPARKY Productions presents Alan Bennett’s new play “People” as part of the first NT LIVE program with Telluride’s Palm Theatre.
NT LIVE is a simulcast, live broadcast of a National Theatre of Great Britain productions. “People” is currently running at the National Theatre in London to great acclaim.
“Now, in his mordantly funny new play, he shows a South Yorkshire country house and its upper-crust owners being similarly turned into a part of the heritage industry… the play confirms Bennett’s peculiar gift for blending the satiric and the elegiac,” raved The Guardian.
“At 78, Alan Bennett has lost little of his mischievous wit and sense of the ridiculous… People is entertaining, funny and touching,” said “The Telegraph.”
Alan Bennett is one of England’s finest playwrights. Sly and subtle, his sharp, humorous and provocative observations of human nature have made him a national treasure. Bennett’s previous plays included the hit “The Madness of George III,” which was turned into a critically successful film that played the Telluride Film Festival.
“People” is a comedy about sisters, family treasures, and two very different solutions. It reunites Alan Bennett and director Nicholas Hytner, following their collaborations on the celebrated “The History Boys” and “The Habit of Art.” The London Independent described the production as having “moments of tenderness and droll social insight that show Bennett at his best.”
This summer, Tuesday, June 11 and Tuesday, August 20, two more NT LIVE plays are scheduled. June 11 is a new play, “This House,” and August welcomes the hit play “The Audience” featuring Helen Mirren.
SPARKY Productions produces THE TELLURIDE PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL the last week in July as part of Telluride’s THEATRE WEEK. Besides the Theatre Festival, a SPARKY Salon style program will include NT LIVE and a Film Club.
