05 Apr LOVE MY NEW WAGNER CUSTOM SKIS
For me it was a short ski season: we were away from Telluride from last September until mid-February, and we had to leave again with over a week remaining in the season. But, it was a good short season.
Susan and I returned to Telluride to new snow, sunny days, and more snow. And my new Wagner skis.
Late last Summer I sat down with Pete Wagner at his place in Placerville to talk about the design of my skis, which I had won at auction in March, 2012, to benefit the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program. We spent at least an hour discussing terrain and conditions I prefer to ski, as well as my desire to simplify my arsenal, so the ski had to be versatile. All this plus the usual measurements went into the computer. Then we talked some more, and agreed on the final proposal. A few weeks later, on our way out of town, we stopped again to drop off some photographs from my time in the air wing of the US Marine Corps. From these Heather, Wagner’s design guru, developed the graphics for the top sheet of my skis.
So here’s the final take on this process: the skis have been everything I had hoped. I’ve skied hardpack, powder, steeps, groomers, hike-to side country, you name it. And the graphics have caught attention every time they’re not covered with snow. Yeah, I’m happy. The skis are back in Placerville getting a factory tune and facelift, to be ready for a full season next Winter.
Thanks to all the folks at Wagner Custom Skis that made it happen. And thanks to Pete Wagner and Milo De Vries for supporting TASP with this appropriate auction item.
