Cabaret at The Steaming Friday, March 1 at 9 p.m.

In existence for nine years as an annual gay-targeted ski event, Telluride Gay Ski Week has become one of the most popular gay ski weeks in the country. What was once one of the lowest attendance weeks of Telluride’s winter season has now become one of the top weeks behind Christmas and Presidents Day Weekend (based on Telski skier days analysis). And that is thanks to the influx of close to 1,000 unique guests.

One of those guests is really quite a drag. Welcome Mica to town.

Mica is a drag singer from New York City – yes, you read correctly, she actually sings live – who will be performing for locals and tourists alike at Telluride’s Steaming Bean. During what promises to be a memorable evening, the plan is take everyone on a soulful musical  journey down memory lane: through the decades from the 1950s – 1990s, from doo-wop to pop, including some R&B and country tunes. The eclectic set should include something for everyone.

Back home in the Big Apple, Mica is  featured at historic cabaret rooms such as The Duplex and Don’t Tell Mama. She also gigs on Fire Island. Mica once did a cameo on Real Housewives of Atlanta and she recorded a Grammy-nominated gospel album with her church choir under the direction of the late Bishop Walter Hawkins.

Mica’s show at The Bean is a great way to recover from Gay Ski Week’s infamous White Party and gear up for the Telluride AIDS Benefit’s gala fashion show on Saturday night. Not only will the sounds be delicious, so will the $5 Mica-Tini’s.
