23 Jan SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS WEATHER: 1-23-12 FORECAST
Today, the end of our January Thaw as high pressure breaks down allowing a change of weather. Several low pressure systems will be blowing into Colorado from Thursday through early next week.
The first of the storms beginning tomorrow evening will favor the mountains north of us; however, the second storm, an eastern Pacific low arriving Friday should provide a better chance of snow for the San Juans through Saturday night. Subtropical moisture on southwest flow will spread into the southern mountains ahead of the system that will favor south and west aspects above 11,000′.
The third disturbance, models are in fair agreement showing a low digging south along the California coast moving into the Great Basin Monday and pushing into western Colorado on Tuesday. The models indicate the storm pulling in moisture rich Pacific air combined with good instability and wind. This storm looks more impressive with a chance for good precipitation.
